Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

You identify two genuine main patterns: sodium and saturated fat peak at dinner, and breakfast is low for both. You also report several figures accurately, including sodium at 43% for dinner and 29% for lunch, and saturated fat at 37% and 26% respectively. However, the response omits added sugar entirely, despite its contrasting pattern: snacks are highest at 42%, while dinner is 23%. The overview is therefore incomplete, and the conclusion repeats earlier points rather than summarising all three nutrients. The response is also 17 words below the 150-word minimum. To improve, cover the added-sugar pattern and make comparisons across all three charts, while ensuring the response meets the required length.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is some organisation: an opening statement is followed by an overview and a paragraph of figures, with a concluding sentence. This gives the reader a basic route through the response. However, progression is weakened by repetition: the overview says dinner is highest and breakfast lowest, then the body and conclusion repeat these same points. Linking words such as “However” and “While” are used, but the relationships between ideas are not always clear, and the long body paragraph combines several comparisons without a clear structure. Group the information by nutrient or by meal, and use separate paragraphs for the overview and key details. This would make the comparisons easier to follow and reduce repetition.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some relevant chart vocabulary, including “average percentages,” “highest amount,” “lowest level,” and “peak,” so the main comparisons are generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or repetitive, such as “mostly contain in dinner,” “second most highest,” and “lies on second.” These choices make the description less natural and sometimes obscure the intended comparison. Spelling slips such as “Moreever” and “snaks” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise reporting language and vary repeated terms: for example, use “accounted for,” “was highest,” or “ranked second.” Check spelling and collocations before finishing, and use vocabulary that describes proportions rather than saying nutrients are contained in meals.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer sentences and use basic comparison structures, including “while” and “however.” The meaning of many individual figures can still be understood. However, sentence control is inconsistent, and several clauses are joined in ways that make the relationships difficult to follow. For example, “In sodium fat dinner contain the highest amount” has an unclear grammatical structure, while “the snacks and breakfast contain lowest percentage” lacks an article before “lowest percentage.” Capitalisation after commas is also inconsistent, as in “Overall,It.” Practise forming clear subject–verb sentences such as “Dinner accounted for the highest share of sodium,” and use full stops to separate comparisons. More accurate sentence patterns would make your data easier to interpret.
