IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people believe that it is best to accept a bad situation, such as an unsatisfactory job or shortage of money. Others argue that it is better to try and improve such situations.
Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Some individuals argue that they should accept a minimum payed job when they are in bad situation, while others argue that instead of relying on that type of job is not necessary, just take a risk and improve your situation and enjoy aa good life. I will go with improvement in such type of situation, but there are also some factors that should be considered.
On the one hand, people who believe that if you stuck in a bad situation, you have to accept anything that comes to you, either it is an unsatisfactory job or anything else. Sometimes, people stuck in bad condition because of any incident happened in their life. For example, when someone faces a burden of his family and he totally rely on his job to fill the basic needs of his family and suddenly he lost his job, and it is hard to fill the basic needs of his family, then the only way to fulfill his needs is to accept a low pay job to survive.
On the paradoxical side, there are some people who believe that accepting an unsatisfactory job is not the solution. They believe that there are too many ways to alleviate with this problem like taking a risk and try try again to find a good job and do not face the bad situation. However, it depends on the situation and the mindset of the people, if they strongly believe that they can do something better, they will be successfull.
To summarize, I think it is beneficial for those who try and get success rather than those who just take an unsatisfactory job and live their life. Both aspects are right according to the situation, if there is too bad time for someone, he will have to accept it without any hesitation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address both views and state a clear preference for trying to improve one’s circumstances. The example of someone losing a job while supporting a family is relevant and helps explain why accepting low-paid work may be necessary. However, the discussion is uneven: the first view receives a more concrete explanation, while the case for taking risks is mostly asserted through “taking a risk and try try again” rather than developed with a reason or example. Your conclusion also partly weakens your position by saying people should accept a bad situation “without any hesitation,” without clarifying when acceptance is preferable. Develop both sides more fully and make your final position consistent and precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. The example is placed in the paragraph supporting acceptance, and signposts such as “On the one hand” and “To summarize” help readers follow the broad direction. However, some links are mechanical or unclear. “On the paradoxical side” does not accurately signal a contrasting viewpoint, and the opening sentence of the first body paragraph is difficult to follow because it begins “people who believe that if you stuck…”. The conclusion also shifts between supporting improvement and endorsing acceptance. Use clearer topic sentences, connect each explanation explicitly to the question, and ensure the final paragraph follows logically from your stated opinion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “unsatisfactory job,” “basic needs,” “low pay,” and “alleviate.” These choices show an attempt to discuss employment and hardship rather than relying entirely on very general language. However, the range is limited and several inaccurate or unnatural expressions make parts of the argument harder to understand. For example, “minimum payed job” is not the intended expression, “alleviate with this problem” is an incorrect collocation, and “enjoy aa good life” contains an obvious spelling slip. Repetition of “bad situation” and “job” also limits precision. Build a more accurate set of phrases for financial hardship, employment choices, and improving circumstances, and check spelling and collocations carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including conditional structures such as “if they strongly believe that they can do something better” and a longer example beginning “when someone faces a burden of his family.” This shows some range, but control is inconsistent, especially when clauses are combined. In “people who believe that if you stuck in a bad situation,” the clause structure is incomplete, while “he totally rely” and “he lost his job” show problems with agreement and tense. The long family example also contains several clauses without clear grammatical connections. Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement, tense consistency, articles, and punctuation when using subordinate clauses.
