IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people believe that it is best to accept a bad situation, such as an unsatisfactory job or shortage of money. Others argue that it is better to try and improve such situations.
Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Many people argues that accepting a bad circumstance like unpleasant job or financial issues is better while others believe that it is best to work hard in improving such condition. I agree with the second opinion that people should try to improve their circumstances. This essay will give reasons for both views.
People with a point of view that who accept a bad situation believe that acceptance is important to relieve constant stress. They should not object to unsatisfactory job because that is their source of income. They should accept it and continue working. This will atleast protects them from unemployment or financial crisis. For example, if an employee gets bullied by an employer, he may try to sacrifice his mental health just to remain in that job position. This is not an idealmove. One should stand for itself.
On the otehr hand, people who believes in working hard to overcome a hurdle have view that despite a situation, ony hard work can save you. If the working environment is bad, or not giving enough money, one should leave that job and try to opt a job whre he has better opportunities to succeed. For example,if a boss not letting employee to work properly than instead of compromising, one should hunt for the job in order to get that mental peace and better future opportunity.
In conclusion, people should not settle for something which they don't like. They should always workhard in order to achieve something they desire.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You address both views and state your position clearly: “I agree with the second opinion,” and your conclusion supports trying to improve one’s circumstances. The examples about workplace bullying and seeking a better job are relevant. However, the discussion is only partially developed: the case for accepting a difficult situation is mainly reduced to keeping an income, while the benefits and limits of changing circumstances are not explored in much depth. The examples also remain general rather than showing how the choices might work in practice. The response is 247 words, so it does not meet the 250-word minimum. Develop each side with a fuller explanation and a specific supporting example to address the task more completely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, one paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. The contrast between the views is signposted with “On the other hand,” and the final paragraph restates your opinion. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear, and linking is repetitive or mechanical. For instance, several sentences begin with “They should” or “one should,” while the opening promises to give reasons without clearly previewing them. Some references, such as “that” in “despite a situation,” are vague, making the relationship between ideas harder to follow. Use clearer topic sentences, connect each example explicitly to the point it supports, and vary linking and reference words.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “unsatisfactory job,” “financial crisis,” “working environment,” and “mental health.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “better opportunities to succeed.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “improving such condition,” “sacrifice his mental health,” and “hunt for the job.” Spelling errors such as “otehr,” “ony,” and “whre” also reduce accuracy. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall argument, but they make parts less natural. Build a bank of precise phrases for discussing employment and financial hardship, and proofread spelling and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including conditional structures such as “if an employee gets bullied by an employer” and clauses beginning with “because” and “while.” However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to process. Examples include “Many people argues,” “people who believes,” and “This will atleast protects,” where subject–verb agreement or verb forms are incorrect. Articles and sentence construction also need attention, as in “if a boss not letting employee to work properly.” Punctuation spacing is inconsistent, particularly before or after full stops and commas. Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and correctly formed verb, then review articles and punctuation before submitting.
