Student answer (Band 6.5)

There is a compelling argument that it is best to accept a bad situation or to try and improve such situations. I am inclined to believe that we should always try to improve our situations. In this essay I will elaborate my opinion with reasons.

If a person have an unsatisfactory job or shortage of money, he/she is already going through a lot mentally. At that time it feels scary to try new things to improve such situation and accepting a bad situation feels easy. Most of people just accept it and their circumstances never change. It leads to complaining and regretting later in life.

But on the opposite side, trying new things or taking a risky chance is very important in such situation.

Because if you never try you never know how life could be on the other side. You can learn a lot of new things and have different experiences if you try. And the unsatisfactory job has detrimental effect on person's mental well being and productivity level.

Also a major contributing factor why people don't take chance is the society which does not encourage to take risk and chance because change is scary. But there is a quote that says "either your fear fades away or the opportunity fades away", so if God is giving you an opportunity it is better to take chance. Because the worst that can happen is to fall, but at least one should fall forward instead of behind.

To conclude, it is clear that one should try again and again to change their bad situation because where there is a will, there is a way.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention that accepting a bad situation leads to regret and that taking risks can lead to new experiences, these points are not fully extended with concrete examples or deeper analysis. The essay remains somewhat superficial in its exploration of why people might choose to accept a bad situation, focusing mostly on the benefits of change. To reach a higher band, ensure that both sides of the argument are explored with equal depth and that your supporting points are more thoroughly explained.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'But on the opposite side' and 'Also a major contributing factor', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the connection between sentences could be smoother. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the overall flow would benefit from a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect ideas more naturally within and between paragraphs.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You use some good phrases like 'detrimental effect' and 'mental well-being', but there is also a reliance on simpler, repetitive language such as 'try new things' and 'bad situation'. To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary and collocations related to career development, risk-taking, and psychological resilience. Avoid using informal phrasing like 'a lot of' and try to vary your word choices to demonstrate a more sophisticated command of English.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('If a person have', 'Most of people') and missing articles ('take chance'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article usage. Additionally, try to incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence structures, such as conditional clauses or passive voice, to demonstrate greater grammatical flexibility.
