Student answer (Band 6.5)

No one can deny that some people believe that it is best to accept a bad situation, such as unsatisfactory job or shortage of money. While other prefer to think that it is better to try and improve such situation. It is important to admit that both views have their own benefits and detriments. In this essay, I will discuss the possible reason that support each view and what benefits they bring to the society.

On the one hand, the option to think that it is best to accept a bad situation for unsatisfactoryu job or shortage of money has its benefits for many convincing reason. Most importantly, not everyone has the opportunity to change jobs or earn money immediately. For example, a person may have family responsibilties or live in an area where employment opportunities are limited. In such cases accepting reality can reduce stress and help people focus on making the best use of what they already have.

On the other hand, despite the above argument, other people choose to believe that both viewsd has many drawbacks which cannot be ignored. However, making an effort to improve a bad situation often leads to personal growth and a better quality of life. People who continue learning new skills, apply for better jobs, or start a small business are more likely to achieve financial stability.

In conclusion, while accepting a bad situation can provide peace of mind in certin circumstances, I believe that striving to improve it is a more beneficial approach because it encourages personal development and increase the chances of achieving a better future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you provide a reason for accepting a bad situation (family responsibilities), the second body paragraph is slightly underdeveloped and contains a logical inconsistency where you mention 'both views have drawbacks' instead of focusing on the arguments for improving a situation. To reach a higher band, ensure that each body paragraph fully explores the implications of the viewpoint discussed, providing more depth and specific examples to support your claims.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, and you use basic cohesive devices like 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand' to signal shifts in the argument. However, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is slightly abrupt, and the reference to 'both views' in the second body paragraph is confusing as it does not clearly link to the prompt's requirement to discuss the benefits of improving a situation. Improving the use of cohesive devices to create smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'financial stability' and 'personal growth'. However, there are several spelling errors, such as 'unsatisfactoryu', 'responsibilties', 'viewsd', and 'certin'. These errors are noticeable but do not impede communication. To improve, focus on proofreading for common spelling mistakes and try to incorporate more precise collocations or less common lexical items to demonstrate a wider range of vocabulary, which is necessary for higher band scores.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical slips, such as 'other prefer' (should be 'others prefer'), 'reason that support' (should be 'reasons that support'), and 'increase the chances' (should be 'increases'). While these errors are frequent, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning. To achieve a higher score, work on subject-verb agreement and ensure that your complex sentences are constructed accurately. Increasing the variety of your sentence structures will also help improve your score in this criterion.
