Student answer (Band 7.0)
Supporters say that accepting bad situations like unsatisfactory job or shortage of money is the best, while others argue that it is better to try and embolden such situations. However, in my opinion, improving such situations will make individuals become confident and independent.
To begin with, adapting to real-life problems like unsatisfactory job or shortage of money is very crucial. This is because these challenges are bound to happen in our daily lives, so acknowledging them rightly would be more beneficial. If individuals accept bad situations like shortage of money in their businesses, they tend to develop tolerance and experience, which would increase their threshold. For example, many employees in Lagos, Nigeria have developed the ability to overcome unforeseen circumstances that correlates with their work. As a result, they adapt with whatever situation they may encounter. However, some bad situations can be very challenging, but the ability to withstand and manage them are very paramount.
In my opinion, improving these challenges is very vital because bad situations should not only be managed, but enhanced as well. Consequently, this boosts individual's confidence into facing real-life problems. For instance ,When employees are unsatisfied about their work, they complain to their managers, which will try to take action, in order to mitigate the issue.Subsequently, this improves their job satisfaction, which will boost their confidence. Additionally, they become independent because they are able to resolve issues on their own. As a result, they try to improve the causative factor, which is prompting the problems.
In conclusion, although adapting to bad situations can be important, in my opinion, being able to improve the problem is most beneficial.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The first body paragraph discusses 'accepting' situations, but the argument is slightly repetitive and lacks depth regarding the potential downsides of this approach. The second body paragraph focuses on 'improving' situations, using a relevant example from a workplace setting. While the main points are relevant, the explanation of why one approach is superior to the other could be more nuanced. The response meets the requirements of the prompt but would benefit from more detailed exploration of the implications of each perspective.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Consequently', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader through the argument. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as the use of 'which will try to take action' where the antecedent is unclear. The progression of ideas is generally smooth, but the connection between sentences could be tightened to improve the overall flow and ensure that the logical links between the two viewpoints are more robust.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at using less common vocabulary, such as 'mitigate', 'unforeseen', and 'paramount'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'embolden such situations' (which is contextually incorrect) and 'causative factor'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over collocations and word meanings. Expanding the range of academic vocabulary would help elevate the response to a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('the ability to withstand and manage them are very paramount') and minor punctuation errors, including an unnecessary space before a comma. While the meaning remains clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. To improve, the student should focus on ensuring subject-verb agreement and refining the use of complex sentence structures to ensure they are error-free.
