Student answer (Band 6.5)

Some persons think that it is better to accept bad situation. Others say that it is good to make attempts for improvement. In my opinion, both considerations are vital and neither of them cannot be ignored.

Firstly, discuss the view of those people who think that bad situations should be accepted. It is a great piece of advice as we should live in reality. Accepting our bad situations like unsatisfactory job can be essential because by accepting this persons can focus on their job not on the stress by having a bad job. In addition, if there is some shortage of money. The best part by accepting this is that people can think of measures how to live within their resources and do not always thinking about shortage of money.

Furthermore, some people argue that we should improve our bad conditions. This is very essential because this is the rule for success always trying to improve your bad conditions. Moreover, it can also improve people personality and thinking as they always keen to make attempts for their improvements and never give up. For example, if we look at successful persons around the world such as Bill gates. He failed his high school exams and facing poor conditions but despite all this he continues to improve himself and became the founder of Microsoft.

In the conclusion, i should that it is better to accept reality such as bad situations but we should always try for making improvements to our present condition.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While the argument for accepting bad situations is touched upon, the reasoning is slightly repetitive and lacks depth. The example of Bill Gates is relevant but could have been better integrated to explain the 'improvement' perspective more thoroughly. To reach a higher band, ensure that each main idea is supported by more detailed explanation or specific, well-developed examples that clearly link back to the prompt's core themes of job satisfaction and financial management.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'In addition', 'Furthermore', and 'In the conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally slightly awkward, such as the phrase 'the best part by accepting this'. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the overall flow could be improved by using a wider variety of cohesive links to connect sentences more naturally rather than relying on simple sentence starters.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There is some repetition of basic terms like 'bad situations' and 'improve'. While the student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary, such as 'resources' and 'founder', the overall lexical range is somewhat limited. There are also minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'some persons' instead of 'some people' and 'always keen to make attempts' which sounds slightly unnatural. Expanding your vocabulary to include more academic collocations would significantly improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow, such as 'neither of them cannot be ignored' (a double negative), 'by accepting this persons can focus' (missing punctuation/subject-verb agreement), and 'i should that it is better' (missing verb). While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and avoiding double negatives will help improve the accuracy of your writing.
