Student answer (Band 6.5)

People have different opinions about this issue. This essay will discuss both views and give my opinion. I believe that it is better to try and improve such situations rather than to accept a bad situations.

On the one hand, some people believe that accepting a bad situation is the best choice. Because they think they can not do better job also they didn't take risk to improve their situation. For example, person with a low income may continue working because they need to support their family. So that's why they accept their bad situation. In addition, changing a job or starting a new business can be risky.

On the other hand, some people think that improving a bad situation is the best choice. They didn't accept the bad situation and they also want to improve by gaining new skills or find better job. When a person unhappy with their job they always well trained by themself and got a better position or higher position in a job. So at this mindset they can lead a better life or a healthy life. For example, a person who want to improve their situation they do their best to achieve successful on their work.

In my opinion, I believe that improving a bad situation is the great decision in life. Because try to improving such situation much better than accepting a bad situation. Also hard working or doing something in life can make a person successful rather than accepting them.

In conclusion, Both these views are great by persons situation. However, every one can not effort a new business or new job because of lack of money and skills. Either they can't take risk by their family situation. But I believe that, most of the people really can take a risk to improve their situation and have a better future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The essay addresses both parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the arguments regarding why people accept bad situations are repetitive, focusing primarily on fear of risk and financial constraints. While the response is relevant, the supporting examples are brief and lack depth. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more specific, illustrative examples or logical consequences. The conclusion attempts to balance the views, but the overall development remains at a basic level, as the arguments are not fully extended or explored in detail.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'In addition,' and 'In conclusion' to signal shifts in the argument. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there is a lack of variety in linking words. Some transitions feel abrupt, such as the jump between the example of a low-income worker and the general statement about risk. Improving the use of referencing (e.g., using pronouns or synonyms to refer back to previous ideas) would help the text feel more cohesive and less repetitive.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on simple, repetitive phrasing such as 'bad situation' and 'improve their situation' throughout the essay. There are also some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'well trained by themself' and 'achieve successful on their work.' To improve, you should aim to use more precise synonyms and collocations, such as 'stagnant circumstances,' 'professional development,' or 'mitigate risks,' which would demonstrate a more sophisticated command of the language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'a person who want to improve'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'they didn't take risk'), and missing articles. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, particularly tense consistency and the correct use of pluralization and articles, before attempting more complex structures.
