Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Student answer (Band 7.5)
People often face difficult circumstances, such as being trapped in an unrewarding job or experience financial hardship. While some argue that accepting these situation is the most practical approach, others believe that individuals should actively seek to improve their circumstances. This essay will discuss both perspective before explaining why i strongly support the latter view.
On the one hand, accepting an unpleasant situation can sometimes be a sensible decision. Many people have family responsibilities or financial commitments that prevents them from taking risks. For example, leaving a stable job without securing another source of income may create even greater financial difficulties. Furthermore, not everyone has equal access to education, training and opportunities. In such cases, adapting to ones circumstances may reduce stress and provide a sense of stability while people gradually plan for future.
On the other hand, making an effort to improve difficult situations is generally a more beneficial approach. Individuals who develop new skills, pursue higher education, or search for better employment opportunities are more likely to achieve long term success and financial security. In addition, overcoming challenges often strengthens resilience, confidence and growth. History provides countless examples of successful entrepreneurs, professionals and innovators who transform their lives through determination and continuous self improvement despite facing obstacles.
In my opinion, although accepting temporary difficulties may sometimes be necessary, it should never become a permanent mindset. People should remain optimistic and continue striving for better opportunities.
In conclusion, while accepting an unfavorable situation may offer short term stability, I believe that actively working to improve one's rewarding approach. It not only enhances financial well being also promotes personal development and long term happiness

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, particularly in the second body paragraph regarding the benefits of self-improvement. However, the conclusion is slightly underdeveloped and contains a grammatical error that obscures the final point ('actively working to improve one's rewarding approach'). While the position is clear throughout, the development of the 'accepting' side could have been slightly more nuanced to reach a higher band. Overall, the response effectively communicates the writer's stance and covers the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'Furthermore,' and 'In addition' are used effectively to guide the reader through the argument. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two viewpoints. The progression of ideas is smooth, and each paragraph has a clear central topic. While the transition in the final sentence of the conclusion is slightly clunky, the overall structure remains coherent and easy to follow throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
The vocabulary is sufficient for the task and allows for some precision. The student uses appropriate collocations such as 'financial hardship,' 'stable job,' and 'long term success.' There is an attempt to use less common vocabulary, such as 'resilience' and 'innovators.' However, there are minor errors in word choice and phrasing, such as 'these situation' (should be plural) and the incomplete final sentence. Despite these minor slips, the range of vocabulary is adequate to convey complex ideas clearly and effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There is good control over most grammatical forms, though some errors persist. For instance, there is a subject-verb agreement error ('commitments that prevents') and a missing preposition in the conclusion ('enhances financial well being also promotes'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and capitalization slips, such as the lowercase 'i' in the introduction. Despite these errors, the meaning is never obscured, and the student shows a solid grasp of sentence construction, which is sufficient for a band 6.5 or 7.0 level.
