Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people believe that when life becomes difficult such as having a bad job or not enough money it is better to accept the situation. Others think that people should try to improve their lives. This essay will discuss both views and explain why I believe trying to improve the situation is usually the better choice.

Accepting a bad situation can sometimes help people feel less stress. Many people have family responsibilities and cannot take risks. For example a person with children may continue working in an unsatisfactory job because it provides a stable income. In addition, finding a new job or earning more money may not be easy especially in areas where there are limited opportunities.to the main reason for the all over pepole like

trying to improve a difficult situation can lead to a better future. People can learn new skills, continue their education, or search for better jobs. Although this may take time and effort, it can increase confidence and create more opportunities.

In my opinion, people should try to improve bad situations whenever possible. Accepting problems for a short time may be necessary, but accepting them forever can stop personal growth. Effort and patience often bring positive results.

In conclusion, some people prefer to accept difficult situations because they want stability and less stress, while others believe in taking action to improve their lives. I believe that trying to improve a bad job or financial problem is generally the better option because it offers hope, development, and a better future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While the argument for accepting a situation is supported by the example of family responsibilities, the second body paragraph regarding improvement is quite brief and lacks specific examples or depth. The phrase 'to the main reason for the all over pepole like' is incoherent and suggests a significant lapse in task focus at that point. To reach a higher band, you should ensure that each argument is fully extended with concrete examples and logical explanations, and avoid including fragmented or nonsensical sentences that detract from the overall argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear introduction and conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'Although', and 'In conclusion' are used to link ideas. However, the flow is interrupted by the incoherent sentence fragment in the second paragraph. Furthermore, the transition between the two main body paragraphs could be smoother to better highlight the contrast between the two viewpoints. While the overall structure is functional, the mechanical nature of some transitions and the lack of clarity in the middle of the text prevent a higher score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express basic ideas clearly. Words like 'unsatisfactory', 'responsibilities', and 'stability' are used correctly. However, the range is somewhat limited and repetitive. There is a lack of less common lexical items or idiomatic collocations that would demonstrate a higher level of proficiency. Additionally, the confusing string of words in the second paragraph indicates a lack of control over vocabulary and syntax in that specific instance. To improve, focus on incorporating more precise academic vocabulary and varied synonyms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are grammatically correct, there are noticeable errors, such as the missing punctuation in 'For example a person' and the confusing, ungrammatical sentence fragment 'to the main reason for the all over pepole like'. These errors occasionally impede the reader's understanding. The control of punctuation is inconsistent, and the sentence variety is somewhat basic. To achieve a higher band, you should aim for more error-free complex sentences and ensure that your punctuation is used accurately to support the clarity of your writing.
