Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 127 words. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. While the introduction mentions both views, the body paragraph only touches upon the first perspective (accepting bad situations) and fails to discuss the second view (improving situations) or provide a clear, developed personal opinion. The ideas presented are underdeveloped and lack the necessary depth required for an academic essay. To improve, you must ensure you address all parts of the prompt equally and provide sufficient supporting evidence and examples to meet the length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into an introduction and one body paragraph, but the lack of a conclusion and the incomplete nature of the argument hinder the overall progression. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with' and 'For example', but the connection between ideas is limited due to the brevity of the text. Paragraphing is present, but the structure is insufficient for a full essay. To improve, ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that you use a wider range of linking words to connect your arguments logically throughout the entire piece.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for basic communication but lacks the range and precision expected at higher levels. Phrases like 'bad situation' and 'terrible states of affairs' are somewhat repetitive and simplistic. There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'best deal to accept' instead of 'best to accept'. To improve, try to incorporate more academic collocations and precise terminology related to the topic, such as 'socio-economic challenges' or 'proactive measures', rather than relying on common, everyday language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('some individuals believes') and awkward phrasing ('the both views'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the sentence structure is often repetitive. To improve, focus on mastering subject-verb agreement and varying your sentence structure by using more complex forms, such as conditional sentences or relative clauses, while ensuring that your grammar remains accurate.
