Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 125 words. Consequently, the development of ideas is severely restricted. While the essay attempts to address both views, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack sufficient explanation or examples. The conclusion is missing, and the position is not clearly maintained throughout the text. To improve, you must expand on your arguments with specific examples and ensure you provide a balanced discussion followed by a clear personal opinion, all while meeting the length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is fragmented and lacks a clear logical progression. While there is an attempt to use transition signals like 'to commence with' and 'on the other hand', the overall structure is disjointed. Paragraphing is not effectively used to separate the different viewpoints, and the abrupt ending makes the essay feel incomplete. To improve, ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that ideas are linked using a variety of cohesive devices to guide the reader through your argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and contains several inaccuracies that hinder clarity, such as 'unsuitable condition' instead of 'unsatisfactory situation' and 'do effects' which is non-standard. There is a reliance on basic vocabulary, and some word choices are awkward, such as 'uninterested duty'. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise collocations and a wider range of vocabulary related to the topic of employment and personal development. Avoid repeating simple words and try to incorporate more academic terminology.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Examples include 'Few individuals declare' (should be 'Some'), 'other argue' (should be 'others argue'), and 'do for money' (missing subject/object). There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the existing sentences are often simple or contain errors in word order and verb forms. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles and prepositions before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
