Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response is significantly under the required word count of 250 words, reaching only 80 words. Consequently, the task is not fully addressed. The essay fails to develop the arguments for both views or provide a coherent conclusion. The introduction attempts to outline the topic, but the response stops abruptly after only a few sentences. Because the response is so brief, it is impossible to evaluate the development of ideas or the clarity of the position beyond the initial statement. To improve, you must ensure you write at least 250 words and provide full paragraphs for each side of the argument.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The text is too short to demonstrate a logical progression of ideas or effective paragraphing. While there is an attempt to use a cohesive device ('On the one hand'), the response ends immediately after, preventing any assessment of paragraph structure or the use of linking words to connect ideas. The lack of a complete essay structure makes it impossible to achieve a higher band. Focus on planning your essay into four clear paragraphs: an introduction, two body paragraphs for the opposing views, and a conclusion.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. Phrases such as 'some masses' and 'the former statement' are used in a way that sounds unnatural or imprecise. There is no evidence of a range of vocabulary that would allow for the discussion of complex topics. To improve, you should aim to use more precise academic vocabulary and avoid repeating the same words. For example, instead of 'some masses', use 'some individuals' or 'proponents of this view'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The response contains several grammatical errors, including punctuation issues (e.g., spaces before commas), capitalization errors ('society' should be capitalized), and repetition ('the the'). The sentence structure is simplistic and contains errors that hinder the flow of the text. There is no evidence of complex sentence structures. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensure proper capitalization and punctuation, and practice using a variety of sentence types, such as complex sentences with subordinating conjunctions.
