Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is argued that it is best to accept a bad situation, like an unsatisfactory job or shortage of money. In this essay I will argue that it is better to try and improve such situations.
There are several reasons why people accept bad situations of an unsatisfactory job or shortage of money. Firstly, they are afraid of telling their managers of offices that they are not happy in the job, because they fear the peer pressure of managers . As a result, they accept the unsatisfactory facilities what they get in their jobs. Secondly, some of them remain too shy and do not even ask their bosses to increase the amount of salary. In some countries, Bangladesh for example, skilled garment workers do work all over the night and they get scolded by their managers for asking about salary.
Despite the above arguments, I believe that people should collectively petition their employers. People should come together and need to do petetion to their bosses. This is because united workers have more negotiating power than individuals acting alone. For instance, factory workers in Bangladesh who organised group protests successfully negotiated higher wages and safer conditions. While employers may resist initial demands, the cost of losing an entire workforce forces them to compromise. Consequently, collective action is the most effective way to transform an unsatisfactory work environment.
In conclusion, while some argue that it is best to accept a bad situation, such as unsatisfactory job or shortage of money, I believe that it is better to improve the situation because people can become happier with the office facilities and increment the money.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the second paragraph provides relevant reasons for accepting bad situations, the focus on 'shortage of money' is less developed than the 'unsatisfactory job' aspect. The argument for collective action is well-supported with the example of garment workers in Bangladesh, which adds depth. To reach a higher band, ensure that both sides of the prompt are explored with equal depth and that the conclusion does not merely repeat the introduction but synthesizes the main points more effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'Despite the above arguments', and 'Consequently' are used to guide the reader through the text. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally repetitive. For instance, the phrase 'unsatisfactory job or shortage of money' is repeated verbatim multiple times, which affects the flow. Improving the variety of cohesive links and using more sophisticated referencing would enhance the overall coherence of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'negotiating power' and 'collective action'. However, there are instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'managers of offices' and 'increment the money', which sounds unnatural. Spelling errors like 'petetion' also occur. To improve, the student should focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that vocabulary is used in a natural, academic context rather than relying on repetitive, simplified phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical inaccuracies. Examples include 'the unsatisfactory facilities what they get' (incorrect relative pronoun) and 'do work all over the night' (unnatural prepositional phrase). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors in sentence construction. To achieve a higher band, the student should aim for greater control over complex sentence forms and work on eliminating basic errors in articles, prepositions, and relative clauses to ensure the majority of sentences are error-free.
