Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The essay addresses both views and provides an opinion, but the development is inconsistent. While the prompt asks to discuss both views and give an opinion, the arguments provided are often vague and lack specific, logical support. For instance, the argument for accepting a bad situation is not clearly explained, and the transition to the author's own opinion is abrupt and confusing. The conclusion contradicts the body paragraphs by suggesting that one should both accept a situation and enhance it simultaneously, which makes the position unclear. To improve, ensure that each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed idea with clear, logical examples that directly support the thesis.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is often disjointed. While some cohesive devices are used (e.g., 'On the one hand', 'Furthermore', 'In conclusion'), they are sometimes used incorrectly or do not effectively link the ideas. For example, the transition between the body paragraphs and the conclusion is weak, and the internal logic within paragraphs is frequently interrupted by grammatical errors. The referencing is also occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the argument's flow. More attention should be paid to using linking words that accurately reflect the relationship between sentences and ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive, which restricts the ability to express complex ideas. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'can stuck some circumstances' instead of 'can get stuck in certain circumstances' and 'applying better higher jobs' instead of 'applying for better, higher-paying jobs'. The range is sufficient to communicate basic meaning, but the lack of precision and the misuse of common phrases prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on learning collocations and using more precise academic vocabulary rather than relying on simple, repetitive phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a high frequency of grammatical errors that often impede readability. There are persistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'wrong circumstances can occurs', 'someone who are not finding'), incorrect verb forms, and missing articles. Complex sentence structures are attempted but are almost always flawed, leading to confusion. While the meaning is generally understandable, the sheer volume of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction is significant. A focus on mastering basic sentence structure and proofreading for common errors like subject-verb agreement would greatly enhance the clarity and quality of the writing.
