Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people think it is best to accept difficult situations in life, such as a bad job or a shortage of money. Others believe that we should always try to improve these situations. In my opinion, both accepting the reality and working to change it are important depending on the moment.

On the one hand, accepting a bad situation has some benefits. When people accept their current problem, they stop worrying and feel less stressed. This realistic attitude helps them stay calm and patient during tough times. For instance, if someone loses their job, accepting the situation first prevents panic and allows them to think clearly about their next steps.

On the other hand, trying to improve a bad situation is essential for progress. If people always accept their difficulties, they will never achieve their goals or improve their lives. Working hard to change things brings better opportunities, like a higher salary or a healthier lifestyle. For example, learning new skills can help a person leave an unsatisfying job and find a much better one.

In my opinion, a neutral approached is the best choice because both mindsets are useful together. Fiest, we must accept the situation to understand the problem without stress. After that, we should take active steps to change it for the better. Therefor acceptance is the first step, but taking action is the final goal.

In conclusion, accepting a bad situation brings immediate peace of mind, while fighting to improve it creates a better future. I believe that we need a balance of both to handle

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and logically developed, such as the distinction between the psychological benefits of acceptance and the practical benefits of taking action. However, the conclusion is incomplete, which prevents a fully developed final summary. To reach a higher band, ensure that the conclusion is fully finished to provide a sense of closure to the argument. The position is consistent throughout the essay, and the main points are supported with clear examples.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'For instance' are used effectively to guide the reader through the argument. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. The progression of ideas is clear, moving from the benefits of acceptance to the necessity of action. While the final sentence is cut off, the overall structure remains coherent and easy to follow throughout the majority of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally appropriate for the task and allows for clear communication. You use some good collocations like 'realistic attitude' and 'active steps'. However, there are minor errors, such as 'neutral approached' (should be 'neutral approach') and 'Fiest' (likely a typo for 'First'). To improve, try to incorporate a wider range of less common lexical items to demonstrate more sophisticated control. The current range is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for higher band scores.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most sentences are clear and grammatically sound, though there are occasional errors, such as 'Therefor' (spelling error) and the incomplete final sentence. The use of complex structures is generally successful, but the control is not consistent enough for a higher band. To improve, focus on proofreading for minor spelling errors and ensuring that all sentences are complete and punctuated correctly. The grammatical errors present do not impede communication, but they do occur frequently enough to limit the score.
