IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people believe that it is best to accept a bad situation, such as an unsatisfactory job or shortage of money. Others argue that it is better to try and improve such situations.
Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is a harsh reality of our society that they accept a bad situation earlier before even try to improve the situation and start thinking of the worst possible scenarios without actually understanding the consequences of not talking about the possibilities.
Whereas Some people do believe that better things are waiting and we have to stand in the queue to get them.
In my opinion , if this uncertain incident happens to someone they must at least have the guts to face the reality. Whether it is going to be a bad one or a good one. I believe that the positive mindset can change the bad things to happen and turn them in a good opportunity.
The negativity that is coming out of adult minds are basically directly related to the fact that they don’t have enough opportunities to make more money to fulfill their basic necessities of daily routine.Due to this they are not fully engaged and indulge in working environment and are not fully satisfied by the work.
Whereas some people believe and i also do agree that it is not acceptable and even not fair to just sit and wait for the right time. You should make the right time happen. Because once in a blue moon these kind of things happen to some people who are lucky to this extent. And it is extremely important to not tie your own hands. People argue that by putting enough efforts into the process we can achieve the desired outcome.
In conclusion, although accepting a bad situation may sometimes be easier. But according to me by taking action and putting efforts you can make the bad situation better.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the explanation regarding why people accept bad situations is vague and lacks concrete examples or logical depth. The argument for taking action is better supported, but the overall response feels slightly disjointed. To reach a higher band, you should ensure that each paragraph provides a more thorough exploration of the 'why' and 'how' behind the viewpoints, rather than relying on general statements about 'adult minds' or 'lucky' circumstances.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression between ideas is often weak. The transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is abrupt, and the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or misused (e.g., 'Whereas' is used incorrectly at the start of sentences). Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'these kind of things happen to some people who are lucky to this extent.' Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each sentence flows naturally from the previous one will significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and sophistication. You rely on basic phrasing such as 'bad things' and 'good things,' which limits the impact of your argument. There are also issues with collocation and word choice, such as 'indulge in working environment' and 'they accept a bad situation earlier before even try.' To improve, focus on using more academic collocations and precise terminology related to professional and personal development, and ensure that your word choices are contextually appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The negativity that is coming out of adult minds are'), incorrect verb forms ('before even try'), and punctuation errors. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. You should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and practicing the construction of complex sentences to ensure they are error-free.
