Student answer (Band 6.0)

Acceptance is the key mantra to stay calm and composed in life. Ups and downs are a part of life and we have to accept all phases of life. We cannot control everything in our life and so we have to ignore many things but that doesn't mean we should give up easily on anything. We should atleast try once to solve or change the mishappening of the situation and contribute to minimise the bad effects of such times.

Some people believe that it is best to accept a bad situation and others argue that it is better to try and improve such situations. Both mindsets are equally right but at the same time, we should contribute to resolve and change the bad situation. We should not simply give up on everything just because of misfortune and we should try to the last moment to reverse it or improve it.

For example, an unsatisfactory job is a bad situation for all of us. We don't experience satisfaction in a job maybe because of less salery, grumpy colleagues or poor facilities. Then we have have 2 options worth us, either we accept the toxic environment of the working place or we should show courage to stand against the bad situations and try to improve it, the choice is ours. I genuinely believe that we should better fight for ourselves and try to fix bad things. There can we 2 possibilities for the outcome, either we win the argument and bring improvement or we lose the argument and accept the defect. But in both the possibilities, we will have the satisfaction to raise awareness against wrong things.

So I think it is always better to argue in bad situation and try till the end to improve it or change it.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention an unsatisfactory job as an example, the discussion remains quite general and lacks depth. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the 'why' and 'how' behind these perspectives. For instance, you could explain the psychological benefits of acceptance in certain contexts versus the long-term career growth associated with challenging a bad situation. The structure is clear, but the arguments could be more thoroughly supported with specific reasoning or broader implications to fully meet the requirements of a Band 7 or higher.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'For example' and 'In both the possibilities' are used, but there is a lack of sophisticated linking words to connect ideas more fluidly. The transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is a bit abrupt. To improve, try using a wider variety of cohesive devices such as 'consequently,' 'furthermore,' or 'on the other hand' to create a more natural flow between sentences and paragraphs.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'bad situation' and 'good' repeatedly. There are also some minor collocation errors, such as 'mishappening of the situation' and 'less salery' (spelling error). To improve, focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and collocations. For example, instead of 'bad situation,' use 'adverse circumstances' or 'challenging environment.' Expanding your vocabulary to include more nuanced synonyms will help you express your ideas with greater sophistication and clarity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include 'Then we have have 2 options worth us' (awkward phrasing), 'There can we 2 possibilities' (typo/grammar), and 'argue in bad situation' (missing article). While these errors do not prevent communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a better grasp of sentence construction. To achieve a higher score, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and ensuring that your complex sentences are punctuated correctly and free from minor slips.
