Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both views and provides an opinion, but the development is significantly hindered by unclear expression and a lack of logical depth. The arguments regarding job dissatisfaction and merit-based issues are difficult to follow, and the examples provided (such as the cousin's experience) are not clearly linked to the prompt's core theme of accepting versus improving a situation. The position is stated but lacks the necessary clarity and academic tone required for a higher band. The ideas are often repetitive and under-developed, making it challenging for the reader to grasp the intended argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, which is a positive step, but the internal structure of these paragraphs is weak. The progression of ideas is often disjointed, and the use of cohesive devices is mechanical or inaccurate. For example, the transition 'For my perspective' is non-standard, and the links between sentences are frequently broken by grammatical errors. Referencing is often unclear, particularly with the use of pronouns like 'they' and 'our', which makes it difficult to identify the subjects being discussed. The overall flow is frequently interrupted, requiring the reader to re-read sections to understand the intended meaning.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. There is a frequent misuse of words, such as 'archive' instead of 'achieve', and 'merit base issue' which is not used in a standard way. The student struggles with basic collocations, such as 'do not glad our currently job' and 'increase mental problems'. While the student attempts to use some topic-related vocabulary, the lack of precision and the frequent errors in word choice mean that the range is only minimally adequate for the task. The vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are significant issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'my cousin do not had'), incorrect verb tenses, and sentence fragments. The range of structures is very limited, relying mostly on simple sentences that are often constructed incorrectly. Punctuation is also inconsistent, and the misuse of pronouns (e.g., 'our' instead of 'their') creates confusion throughout the text. These persistent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevent the essay from reaching a higher band, as the meaning is frequently obscured.
