Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both views and provides a personal opinion, though the development is limited. The introduction is somewhat unclear due to grammatical errors, making the initial position difficult to follow. The body paragraphs attempt to provide examples, such as the mention of Ratan Tata, but the narrative is disjointed and lacks clear logical links to the prompt's core theme of 'accepting' versus 'improving' a situation. The conclusion is brief and does not fully synthesize the arguments presented. To improve, ensure each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that examples are directly relevant to the specific arguments being made.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the flow of ideas is often interrupted by awkward phrasing and unclear transitions. While some cohesive devices are used (e.g., 'On the one hand', 'To conclude'), they are sometimes applied mechanically or incorrectly. The referencing is occasionally confusing, such as in the example about the mobile phone company, where the connection between the 'heretic lifestyle' and the outcome is unclear. The progression of ideas is not always logical, making it difficult for the reader to follow the argument throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often imprecise, which occasionally impedes communication. There are several instances of incorrect word choice, such as 'crums of writing' (likely meaning 'coming paragraphs'), 'percise' (precise), and 'masses reckon'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas clearly. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more accurate collocations and avoiding informal or non-standard phrasing. Expanding your range of academic vocabulary and ensuring correct spelling will significantly improve your score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'other believe', 'he was improve'), sentence fragments, and incorrect word order. Complex sentence structures are attempted but are often faulty, leading to confusion. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas and periods. While the meaning is generally discernible, the high frequency of errors in basic structures prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on sentence construction and proofreading for basic errors is essential.
