Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people argue that people should accept their situations, such as unsatisfactory jobs or lack of money, while others believe that individuals should try to improve their such conditions. While it is true that sometimes bad situations should be accepted by people, I also believe that if they can try they can improve their situations by hard work.

There are a number of reasons why people should accept their bad situations. Firstly, if people accept it, they can save themselves from depression, anxiety and other mental problems. Thus, they will not lose their hopes. This quality will allow people to be optimistic. So, they can handle any bad situations smoothly, resulting to a peaceful life. Another possible reason is that if they accept the situation when somethings are not going to their favors, there will be no effect on their personal lives. Finally, sometimes if someone reacts because of unsatisfactory job, he might lose his job. So, to learn how to tackle a bad situation is very important.

However, if we try our best, we can achieve anything. When people will face any problems in their lives, they should deal with those problems. People should try their best to improve their situations. There are nothing which is not achievable. So, people should be ready to take on challenges and should enjoy it. As a result, they can discover their potentials, which will allow them to remove the fear of reality. When I was in class seven, for instance, my financial condition was very bad. However, I thought I would try my best to change it. Later life, I earn a lot of money by learning computer programming. So, I believe that if you want to achieve something bigger, it is possible by working hard.

To sum up, though it is fair to accept some bad situations in individuals lives, I firmly believe that humans have no limitations to achieve anything big. Therefore, people should try to improve their conditions.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the psychological benefits of acceptance versus the proactive approach of self-improvement. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding 'accepting a bad situation' to avoid depression is a good point, but it lacks depth. Similarly, the personal example provided in the third paragraph is a bit anecdotal and could be more effectively linked to the broader societal context. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point is fully explained with more sophisticated reasoning rather than relying on simple assertions.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. The progression of ideas is generally easy to follow. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly', 'Another possible reason', 'However', and 'To sum up', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and there are instances where the flow could be smoother. For example, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is abrupt. Additionally, some referencing is slightly awkward, such as 'improve their such conditions' in the introduction, which impacts the overall cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate their ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'optimistic', 'tackle', and 'potentials'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are occasional errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'somethings are not going to their favors' (should be 'things are not going in their favor') and 'resulting to' (should be 'resulting in'). To improve, the student should focus on using more precise collocations and a wider variety of academic vocabulary to express complex ideas more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'improve their such conditions', 'if people accept it, they can save themselves', 'there are nothing which is not achievable', and 'Later life, I earn a lot of money'. These errors, while not impeding communication, are persistent. To achieve a higher band, the student needs to demonstrate better control over subject-verb agreement, article usage, and sentence construction, ensuring that complex structures are used with greater accuracy.
