IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Many believes that staying and accepting a bad situation is good as they do not consider themselves responsible for it, I agree with those who think that working hard and consistently trying to improve their situations is much better option as its the only possibility to alter your life.
On one hand, many people are of the view that when someone fall into a hard condition in life, a person need to stay there such in conditions of not doing a fulfilling job or in case of bankruptcy. This might be the case if a person do not take the responsibility of bad situation on him/herself and leaves the control of life it on some mysterious forces mysterious source. Such person will always stay in that same condition because of the lack of motivation that its not in his/her hand and will never enhance in life. For example, Elon Musk would have never become the world richest person if he would not have tried flying another rocket into the space after the initial crashes of his rockets and accepting the bad situation of his life.
On the other hand, I agree with those who believes in hard work even at the times of hardships. It is due to the fact that its the only possibility which may alter those challenging times. This is as simple as a mathematical formula. Trying is the only solution in hardships for changing them. For Instance, Warren Buffet journey of life is a strong reflection of it as he tried for almost sixty five years to bring his fried chicken to the international level despite of tons of initial failures.
In conclusion, in my view, trying hard is the only solution in the face of adversity as its the possible way to alter it, although many might be of the opinion that accepting it is better.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal position. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. The explanation of why some people accept bad situations is slightly repetitive, focusing heavily on a lack of motivation. The examples provided, such as Elon Musk and Warren Buffet, are relevant but contain factual inaccuracies (e.g., attributing the creation of fried chicken to Warren Buffet), which weakens the persuasiveness of the argument. To reach a higher band, you should ensure that your supporting examples are accurate and that your arguments are more deeply explored rather than simply restated.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' to signal the structure. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where referencing is unclear, such as the phrase 'leaves the control of life it on some mysterious forces'. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'enhance in life' instead of 'improve one's life' or 'hard condition' instead of 'difficult circumstances'. Additionally, there are some minor errors in word form, such as 'Many believes' instead of 'Many believe'. To improve, focus on learning topic-specific collocations and using more sophisticated synonyms to express your ideas with greater clarity and impact.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there is a high frequency of grammatical errors. Subject-verb agreement is a recurring issue (e.g., 'a person need', 'many believes'). There are also errors in article usage and sentence construction, such as 'if he would not have tried flying' and 'its the only possibility'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. You should focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and the correct use of conditional structures to improve your accuracy.
