Student answer (Band 6.0)

In life we came across different bad situations such as unsatisfactory job or money shortage; some people think that the best way to deal with these kinds of circumstances is to accept them, while others believe that we can try and improve these situations. I strongly believe that nothing is permanent and we can improve everything through hard work.

People believe that, through hard work they can get out of the uncomfortable situation. To achieve something better in their life - job or bank balance- individuals make themselves disciplined, and for that they strictly follow a specific routine on daily basis. Furthermore, individulas leave their comfort zone and work hard regardless of any circumstances: feeling tired, unforseen disaster, wedding cermonay, or festival, they strick to their routine which enable them in achieving their goal. For example, in an interview, one of the successfull Indian film actors named Akshay Kumar said that, through discipline he became the famous actor. As fitness is the major requirement of their industry, so to achieve this, he daily get up at 4 o'clock and eat according to his nutritionist recommendation. In addition to this, he also said that he will not leave his routine in any circumstances because it will effect his career growth. Due to these reasons, I strongly believe that through hard work we can achieve anything.

In contrast, others believe that we should accept the situation because improving the situation involve risks. So instead of dealing with risks, the best way is to manage in the existing situation. Moreover, these individuals manage their expenditure according to their pay, and for that they just try to secure their job by working according to the requirement of their employer. However, they always feel restless and exausted, which is basically effecting their mental health. A recent study conducted by the Psychology Department of Rawalpindi Women Univeristy, and through questionnaire they conduled that around 75% of people are not satisfied with their jobs and pay, but they still want to continue their job because they think it is secure and searching for other opportunity may involve risk of unemployment. In my opinion, they should continue their existing jobs and along with that, they should learn new skills and apply for new roles. This will not only improve their mental health but also improve their circumstances.

In conclusion, acceptance of bad sistuation can lead dissatisfaction and anxiety issues. Through hard work and discipline we can improve our situation, which is also necessary for our mental well-being.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both views and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed, particularly the argument for hard work. However, the discussion of the opposing view is slightly less balanced, as it focuses heavily on the negative consequences of accepting a situation rather than exploring the potential benefits of stability or risk aversion. The position is consistent throughout, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the stance. To reach a higher band, ensure that both sides of the argument are explored with equal depth and nuance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'In addition to this', and 'In contrast' are used to guide the reader through the arguments. However, there are instances where the flow is slightly mechanical, and some transitions between sentences could be smoother. Referencing is generally clear, though some minor issues with pronoun usage occur. Overall, the progression of ideas is logical, and the paragraphing is appropriate for the task.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is sufficient to convey ideas clearly, with some attempts at less common items like 'unforeseen disaster' and 'mental well-being'. However, there are several spelling errors ('individulas', 'cermonay', 'strick', 'successfull', 'univeristy', 'conduled', 'sistuation') and some awkward collocations ('money shortage' instead of 'financial hardship'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precision and proofreading. Expanding the range of academic vocabulary would help elevate the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, such as subject-verb agreement ('he daily get up', 'it will effect') and missing articles. Some sentences are slightly disjointed due to punctuation errors. Despite these issues, the meaning remains clear throughout the response. To improve, the writer should focus on mastering basic grammatical accuracy and refining the use of complex structures to ensure they are error-free.
