Student answer (Band 7.0)
Some people believe that it is better to accept bad situations, such as having an unsatisfactory job or not having enough money. Others think that people should try to improve these situations. This essay will discuss both views, and I believe that people should make an effort to improve their lives.
On the one hand, accepting a difficult situation can sometimes be a sensible choice. Life is not always easy, and some problems cannot be solved quickly. For example, during an economic crisis, it may be very difficult to find a better job. In this situation, keeping the current job can provide a stable income and help a person meet their basic needs. Moreover, accepting things that cannot be changed may reduce stress and help people stay calm.
On the other hand, trying to improve a bad situation can bring many benefits. If people are unhappy with their jobs or have financial problems, they can take steps to change their circumstances. For instance, a person with an unsatisfactory job could learn new skills, take a course, or apply for other jobs. Similarly, someone who has money problems could find extra work or improve their skills to earn a higher income. These actions may take time, but they can create better opportunities in the future. Therefore, people should not simply accept problems if there are realistic ways to solve them.
In my opinion, although accepting a difficult situation may sometimes be necessary, people should generally try to improve their circumstances. Making reasonable efforts can help them achieve a better job, stronger financial position, and a more satisfying life.
In conclusion, accepting bad situations can provide stability, but trying to improve them is usually a better choice when possible.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response fully addresses all parts of the task. You have discussed both views—the merits of accepting a situation for stability and the benefits of actively improving one's circumstances—and provided a clear personal opinion throughout the essay. The ideas are well-developed with relevant examples, such as the mention of economic crises for the first view and skill acquisition for the second. The position is consistent and well-supported, meeting the requirements for a high band score by providing a balanced yet decisive argument.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the transition between the two viewpoints is smooth, facilitated by effective cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'Therefore.' The paragraphing is appropriate, with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a concise conclusion. The flow of information is natural, and the relationship between sentences is easy to follow, demonstrating a high level of control over the structure of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with precision. Phrases like 'unsatisfactory job,' 'economic crisis,' and 'change their circumstances' are used accurately and appropriately. While the vocabulary is functional and clear, it lacks some of the more sophisticated or 'less common' lexical items that would push the score into the 8.0+ range. However, there are no significant errors in word choice or collocation, and the language used is natural and fits the academic context well.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The essay displays a good variety of complex structures, such as conditional sentences ('If people are unhappy... they can take steps') and concessive clauses ('although accepting a difficult situation may sometimes be necessary'). The majority of sentences are error-free, and your control over punctuation and tense is consistent. There are no major grammatical errors that impede communication. To reach a higher band, you could incorporate a wider variety of more sophisticated sentence structures, such as inversion or more complex passive constructions, though your current control is very solid.
