IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people believe that it is best to accept a bad situation, such as an unsatisfactory job or shortage of money. Others argue that it is better to try and improve such situations.
Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Few people think that it is good to accept a bad situation, like an unsatisfactory employment or lack of finance. While others argue that it is better to try and overcome such situations. In my opinion, I believe it is better to keep trying and find a way to overcome from such situations.
Some people believe that it is best to accept a bad situation like unsatisfied job or shortage of money because they don't want to risk their job and are happy with whatever they are getting paid because they believe that risking job could impact their family and with shortage of money still, they are easily able to manage their family responsibilities rather than trying something new and risking job.
Others argue that it is always better to keep trying and improve such situations because they think that unless we take a risk, will not be able to achieve their goals. For an instance, the place where they are working is unsatisfied then they would like to upgrade their skills and start looking for new opportunities with good package this will help them to grow in their Carrer as well as gives strength to take risk and overcome from bad situations.
Overall, in my conclusion I believe that one should not just accept the bad situation, infact they should find different ways to come out of such situations also this might have a severe impact on families as well. People should keep trying to find a way to deal with bad situations.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. The arguments for accepting a bad situation are repetitive, focusing primarily on the fear of losing a job. The counter-argument regarding improving one's situation is also somewhat underdeveloped, relying on general statements rather than specific, well-supported examples. While the prompt is addressed, the depth of analysis is insufficient for a higher band. The conclusion is a bit abrupt and repeats the main point without adding significant synthesis. To improve, ensure each body paragraph provides a distinct, well-reasoned argument with clear supporting evidence.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate. For example, the opening sentence uses 'Few people' instead of 'Some people', which creates a confusing start. Transitions between ideas are sometimes abrupt, such as the shift between the two viewpoints. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the pronoun 'they' is used repeatedly without a clear antecedent. Improving the variety and precision of linking words would help the flow of the argument significantly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward collocations and word choice errors, such as 'unsatisfied job' (should be 'unsatisfactory job'), 'lack of finance' (should be 'financial difficulties'), and 'good package' (should be 'better salary package'). The term 'Carrer' is misspelled. While the student attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary, the range is limited, and the errors occasionally hinder the natural flow of the text. To reach a higher band, focus on learning collocations and using more sophisticated synonyms for common words.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include incorrect preposition usage ('overcome from'), subject-verb agreement errors, and missing articles. For instance, 'will not be able to achieve their goals' lacks a subject, and 'For an instance' is an incorrect idiom. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and correct prepositional phrases would be highly beneficial.
