IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some people believe that it is best to accept a bad situation, such as an unsatisfactory job or shortage of money. Others argue that it is better to try and improve such situations.

Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

 

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many think that embracing a bad situation as it is better, while other debate that trying and improving the circumstances is the best way to deal with it. I strongly agree with the people who think, difficulties and hardships should be faced and dealt with courage as they might be an oppurtunity to enhance ourselves.

People beleiving that bad situations should be left un attended have to do with the fear of making them worst. They are afraid that if they might try to change their circumstances, they might do something wrong and lose whatever they already have. It should not be seen as a weakness but should be a point to ponder about their situation. For example, a previous trauma has oriented their thinking in such a way, in which they tried to improve an issue but exacerbated the situation.But that does not mean they should not try, they should be councelled and encouraged to make their situations better.

Striving to make our worst situations better is the best way to improve ourselves. Almighty has given us the intelligence and resources to deal with our problems. We only need a will and hard work to get us out of that situation. And it does not matter if we succeed or not, this effort makes us stronger and better equipped to face such situations again. For instance, humanity would not have made progress if they thought that they are bound to the conditions they have been served. Trying to make best of the worst situation have made us the apex species of this planet.

In conclusion, efforts should not be abandoned in the face of problems as they might help us carve the best version of ourselves.
