Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both views regarding accepting a bad situation versus trying to improve it, and provides a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed, relying on brief examples like company housing and low savings without fully extending the arguments. Furthermore, the response falls short of the 250-word minimum, containing only 231 words. This under-length impacts the overall development of the task and prevents the essay from achieving a higher band score. To improve, you should expand your arguments with more detailed explanations and ensure you meet the required word count.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates some organizational structure with distinct paragraphs representing the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. However, the progression of ideas is frequently hindered by mechanical or faulty cohesion, such as abrupt transitions and referencing issues ('them tend to manage', 'he/her have no whereless to go'). Paragraphing is attempted, but some paragraphs are fragmented or incomplete, particularly the third body paragraph which trails off abruptly ('other job benefit than housing am'). Overall cohesion is inadequate, leading to a choppy reading experience. Using a wider variety of accurate cohesive devices and clearer referencing would significantly improve the flow of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student uses a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary for the task, with noticeable errors in word formation and choice that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Examples include 'amnities' instead of amenities, 'negative situations' instead of negative situations (plurality agreement), 'an skills' instead of a skill, and 'restricte' instead of restrict. While there are attempts to use less common items, inaccuracies in collocation and spelling ('whereless', 'for instant') are frequent. To achieve a higher band score, you need to expand your lexical repertoire and ensure greater accuracy in word forms and spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writing exhibits a limited range of grammatical structures, with frequent errors in basic and complex sentences alike. There are numerous issues with subject-verb agreement and pronoun usage, such as 'them tend to manage' instead of they tend to manage, and 'he/her have no whereless to go'. Punctuation and capitalization are also inconsistently handled, with sentences starting without capital letters. While simple sentences are generally understandable, attempts at more complex structures often result in faulty grammar that can cause difficulty for the reader. Greater control over basic grammatical rules and sentence construction is necessary.
