Student answer (Band 5.0)

I think that the question is the controversional one that,Some people think it is best to handle a bad situation others think, We should try to improve such situations.

From the one side, The people who thinks we shoud try to improve our situations are true because they are brave and know how to handle their difficulties in their life, Such people are open minded and happy, They try their best to succeed and at last, They won. For instance, My younger brother has a test of BS in America and he become bit nervous because it is his first time, I ask him to prepare well and go to the room, When he some back he ask that he do is test badly because the questions are out of course,I encourage him to again give test and when he give the same test he stood first, He became very happy because he try again and proves himself right.

On the other side, The people who thniks we should accept the bad situation, I think it is not true. In many situations it consoles our mind and makes us nervous amd by thinking such things, one doesnot have to time to give their family and friends, He just accept his situation and and this circulates in his mind, They dont succeed in their life.

In conclusion, I think that we should try again and again to improve ourself and our life, In this way we became happy and we also have a great satisfaction after achieving some thing.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both views discussed in the prompt and provides a clear personal opinion throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and relies heavily on a single personal anecdote about the writer's brother rather than broader, more generalised reasoning or academic support. For instance, the discussion regarding those who accept bad situations is very brief and underdeveloped, stating vaguely that it consoles the mind and makes individuals nervous without fully exploring the psychological or practical aspects of acceptance. While the basic requirements of the task are met, the depth of exploration corresponds to the Band 5.0 descriptors, where ideas tend to be somewhat repetitive and under-developed, particularly in the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates some overall organisation with clear introductory and concluding paragraphs, and attempts at transition markers such as From the one side and On the other side. However, the progression of ideas is frequently disrupted by flawed punctuation, run-on sentences, and faulty referencing. For example, sentences are often strung together with commas rather than full stops or appropriate conjunctions, as seen in, 'My younger brother has a test of BS in America and he become bit nervous because it is his first time, I ask him to prepare well...' This mechanical and inaccurate use of cohesive devices, combined with poor paragraph formatting and repetitive phrasing, places the performance firmly at Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and occasionally inaccurate, which restricts the range to a Band 5.0 level. The student frequently repeats words and phrases like 'bad situation', 'improve such situations', and 'try'. There are noticeable word-choice and collocation errors, such as 'controversional one' instead of controversial, 'give test' instead of take a test, and 'out of course' instead of out of the syllabus or unexpected. While the language used is minimally adequate to convey the basic message, spelling and word formation errors, such as 'shoud' and 'thniks', along with limited lexical flexibility, prevent the response from achieving a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The grammatical range is severely limited, relying predominantly on simple sentences and error-prone attempts at complex structures. There is a high frequency of grammatical errors, including tense inconsistencies, subject-verb agreement issues, and punctuation faults like comma splices. Examples include 'The people who thinks we shoud try' where 'thinks' and 'shoud' are incorrect, 'he become bit nervous', and 'when he some back he ask that he do is test badly'. Punctuation control is weak throughout, with capital letters misused mid-sentence and missing periods. These persistent errors cause frequent strain for the reader, aligning the grammar with the Band 4.0 descriptors.
