IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some people believe that it is best to accept a bad situation, such as an unsatisfactory job or shortage of money. Others argue that it is better to try and improve such situations.

Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

 

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people believe that it is good habit to admit the bad situation like unsatisfactory job or lack of money while other think that people should make effort to improve their circumstances. Although accepting a difficult situation can sometimes be practical, I believe that trying to improve it is generally a better approach.

On the one hand, accepting a difficult situation can be beneficial in some circumstances. people may have responsibilities that prevent them from making immediate changes. For example, a person who has an unsatisfactory job may need to continue his job because they have to support their family. Similarly, someone with financially problems may have to acccept their current situation untill they have enough money to make changes. In such cases accepting reality can reduce stress and help people deal with their problems calmy.

On the other hand, making an effort to improve a difficult situation can lead to better opportunities and a more satisfying life. If people are unhappy with their jobs, for instance they can learn new skills, gain qualifications or search for better employment. Likewise, people facing financial difficulties can try to develop their professional skills, find additional sources of income or managing their spending more carefully. Taking such steps can gradually improve their circumstances and increase their confidence.

In my opinion, people should not simply accept an unsatisfactory situation if there are realistic ways to change it. However, they should also understand that improvement may take time and effort. Therefore, it is important to accept the current situation temporarily while working towards a better future.
