Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's modern world, many people undergo the worst situations because of various factors including unsatisfactory jobs, family issues and poverty. Some people believe that it is more better to accept these circumstances and move on while, others argue that it is more preferable to strive and improve such situations. This essay will discuss both point of view and in the end I will present my own perspective.

On the one hand, the proponents of accepting bad situations claim that it can help people to avoid unnecessary stress. They believe that accepting the reality make them emotionally stable and mentally strong, and give them the power to fight with these circumstances. For instance, an employee earning a low salary might feel struggle to meet his daily expense and live hand to mouth. If they quit job without another offer just to seek better position, they risk complete financial instability. Therefore, accepting their current unsatisfactory job ensures a steady income for basic survival.

on the other hand, others advocate that attempting to improve one's situation is necessary for progress this is because making an effort brings more positive change and better results. It can help people to find more practical solutions for their problems. For example, if people are unhappy with their jobs, they can learn new skills, gain more experience, or search for better employment opportunities instead of accepting the situation. This can help them improve their careers and achieve better working conditions.

In my opinion, although some situations can be difficult, people should try to improve their weaknesses to make their circumstance more better, Instead of accepting the situation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—accepting bad situations versus trying to improve them—and providing a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. The ideas are relevant and supported with examples, such as the low-earning employee and acquiring new skills. However, some arguments tend to over-generalise and could be further extended for a higher band. For instance, the discussion on emotional stability when accepting reality is somewhat limited in development. Overall, the task is well-handled and the position is clear throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay is generally coherent with a clear overall arrangement and logical progression of ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, the two body paragraphs representing different views, and the conclusion. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'On the one hand,' 'On the other hand,' and 'For example,' though some transitions and referencing could be smoother. There are minor formatting issues, such as a lowercase starting letter in 'on the other hand,' but the overall flow allows the reader to follow the argument easily without major disruption.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, incorporating topic-related terms such as 'financial instability,' 'employment opportunities,' and 'working conditions.' However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and awkward phrasing, most notably the double comparative 'more better,' which appears twice in the text. Other minor word choice issues, such as 'feel struggle' instead of 'struggle,' prevent the score from reaching a higher band. Nevertheless, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures reasonably well (e.g., 'If they quit job without another offer just to seek better position...'). There are several grammatical errors present, including missing articles ('quit job', 'seek better position'), subject-verb agreement issues ('making an effort brings'), and punctuation errors. Despite these errors, they rarely impede communication, and the complex structures show an attempt at a varied grammatical range.
