Student answer (Band 6.0)
In today's modern world, many people undergo the worst situations because of various factors including unsatisfactory jobs, family issues and poverty. Some people believe that it is more better to accept these circumstances and move on while others argue that it is preferable to strive to improve such situations. This essay will discuss both point of views and in the end I will present my own perspective.
On the one hand, the proponents of accepting bad situations claim that it can help people avoid unnecessary stress. They believe that accepting the reality makes them emotionally stable and mentally strong, and gives them the power to fight with these circumstances. For instance, an employee earning a low salary may struggles to meet his daily expenses and live hand to mouth. If he quits job without another offer just to seek better position, he risk complete financial instability. Therefore, accepting his current unsatisfactory job ensures a steady income for basic survival.
On the other hand, others advocate that attempting to improve one's situation is necessary for progress. This is because making an effort brings more positive change and better results. It can help people find more practical solutions for their problems. For example, if people are unhappy with their jobs, they can learn new skills, gain more experience, or search for better employment opportunities instead of accepting the situation. This can help them improve their careers and achieve better working conditions.
In my opinion, although some situations can be difficult, people should try to improve their weaknesses to make their circumstance more better, Instead of accepting the situation

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views—accepting difficult situations to avoid stress versus actively striving to improve them for progress—and presents a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. Ideas are relevant and extended with helpful examples, such as the low-earning employee balancing financial stability against career advancement. However, the development tends to be somewhat straightforward and lacks the deeper, more nuanced extension typical of higher bands. Nevertheless, the position is well maintained throughout, ensuring that the task requirements are thoroughly met.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay displays a clear logical organization and progression throughout. It is divided into four well-structured paragraphs, featuring a clear introduction, two distinct body paragraphs representing opposing views, and a concluding paragraph. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', 'For instance', and 'Therefore' are used effectively to guide the reader through the arguments. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and referencing within sentences is generally clear, though minor mechanical transitions could occasionally be smoother to reflect a higher level of flexibility.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating topic-specific terms such as 'financial instability', 'unsatisfactory job', 'employment opportunities', and 'emotionally stable'. However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and awkward phrasings, such as 'more better' instead of 'much better' or 'preferable', and 'fights with these circumstances' instead of 'copes with these circumstances'. While these errors do not impede communication, they reflect a limitation in precision and stylistic control that prevents the writing from achieving a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including conditional structures like 'If he quits job without another offer...' and subordinate clauses. However, there are several grammatical errors and awkward constructions throughout the text, such as missing articles ('quits job', 'seeks better position'), redundant comparatives ('more better'), and subject-verb agreement issues ('an employee earning a low salary may struggles'). Despite these frequent minor errors, communication is rarely impeded, and the punctuation is generally adequate.
