Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on accepting versus improving difficult situations and provides the writer's own perspective. The position is generally clear throughout the essay. However, the ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed, particularly in the body paragraphs where explanations rely heavily on vague generalisations and repetitive phrasing rather than deep elaboration. For instance, the argument supporting the acceptance of bad situations mentions reducing stress, but the supporting example about a European country survey is vague and lacks specific detail. Similarly, the second body paragraph attempts to discuss personal growth through improvement, but the expression is obscured by awkward phrasing. Despite these limitations in development and depth, the essay successfully covers the core prompt requirements. Task Achievement is placed at Band 5.5 because while all parts are addressed, the depth of idea extension is restricted by vocabulary and grammatical limitations.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay displays some overall organisation with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and discernible attempts at paragraphing. However, progression is frequently hindered by mechanical and inaccurate use of cohesive devices, such as 'To commence with', 'For an explanation, is people think', and 'Moving futher'. Referencing and logical connections between sentences are often faulty, creating a disjointed reading experience. For example, transitional phrases are either misused or clumsily constructed, and sentences like 'To explicate, it individuals have self religion what happen in their life' disrupt the logical flow entirely. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion within the paragraphs is weak due to abrupt shifts and repetitive sentence structures. Coherence and Cohesion fit comfortably into the Band 5 descriptors because of the noticeable lack of smooth transitions and repetitive cohesive patterns.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The student demonstrates a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting words like 'dissatisfaction', 'comprehensive', and 'anxiety'. However, there are numerous noticeable errors in word choice, morphology, and collocation that cause difficulty for the reader. Examples include 'forces in visual' instead of 'forces individuals', 'worst scenario' instead of 'worse scenario', 'inviduals', 'linving condition', and 'are study' instead of 'a study'. Furthermore, phrases like 'have self religion what happen' reflect severe lexical and structural inaccuracies. While the writer attempts less common vocabulary, the high frequency of word-formation and spelling errors restricts the lexical score to Band 4.5, as these errors frequently strain comprehension and reveal a lack of control over basic vocabulary items.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The grammatical range is extremely limited, relying heavily on simple sentence patterns alongside highly flawed attempts at complex structures. There is a persistent presence of frequent, heavy grammatical errors that impede communication. Noticeable errors include subject-verb agreement issues ('financial hardships... are common challenges that forces'), incorrect verb tenses and forms ('things which are happen', 'that 40% of successful people are below the poverty line in their childhood' used illogically), and fractured clause structures ('For an explanation, is people think about bad things , it affecting the mental health'). Punctuation is also problematic throughout, with erratic spacing around commas. Because complex structures are frequently faulty and basic grammatical rules are routinely broken, the writing falls squarely into the Band 4 category for Grammar.
