Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Student answer (Band 5.0)

Some people view that acceptance is the best option to overcome bad conditions such aa insufficient money or unsatisfactory jobs, while others believe that there is always room for improvement to achieve satisfaction in such situations. I completely agree with the latter opinion because consistency is the key to achieve success in life.

Generally people who accept bad situations in life immediately curse their fortune. They beleive that whtaever had happened is due to bad luck or some unusual reasons that can't be controlled. They usually blame the situation for their self satisfaction. For instance, if a person hates his job, he may think that he chosed a wrong career but instead of switching to another, he will accept his non-rewarding job

However, others believe with consistency they can change their destination. These people do not wait tor any miracle but they show up every single day and give their effort by trying and improving theor weakness. For instance they beleive that they might improve things by learning and improving. Such people are often rewarded with satisfactory jobs and better opportunities later in life. I completey agree that better results are acheived by right amount of

To sum up, while some people accept bad thing without helping themselves. While others show consistency to acheive the desired results. I also beleive that with effort, one can acheive anything he wished in life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on accepting versus improving difficult life situations and clearly stating a personal opinion. However, the length requirement has not been met, as the essay contains only 231 words, falling short of the 250-word minimum. This under-length limitation directly impacts the depth of idea development, leading to some under-developed arguments. For example, the writer mentions consistency and gives brief examples about a non-rewarding job and learning, but these points are cut short and remain somewhat generalized. Additionally, the final body paragraph is truncated mid-sentence (" acheived by right amount of"), which detracts from task completion. Consequently, the score reflects these limitations in length and idea expansion, aligning with the Band 5 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates a basic overall organization with clear staging into an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is attempted, though the final sentence fragment disrupts the concluding structure. Cohesive devices such as 'For instance', 'However', and 'To sum up' are used to signal transitions between ideas. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, the transition in the conclusion ('while some people accept bad thing without helping themselves. While others show consistency...') creates a sentence fragment and awkward flow. Furthermore, the progression of ideas is occasionally disjointed due to abrupt shifts and under-developed arguments. These features place the response solidly at Band 5.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate basic ideas about accepting or improving life situations. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary items such as 'consistency', 'destination', and 'non-rewarding', but these are accompanied by noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'aa' instead of 'as', 'beleive' instead of 'believe', 'whtaever', 'chosed', and 'acheived'. These errors do not completely impede communication, but they occur frequently throughout the text. Additionally, repetition of phrases like 'improving their weakness' and 'satisfactory jobs' limits lexical range. This performance fits the Band 5 descriptor for lexical resource.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay displays a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, such as conditional or relative clauses ('if a person hates his job, he may think that...'). However, attempts at complex structures are frequently marred by grammatical errors, punctuation issues, and incomplete sentences. Frequent errors include missing articles, incorrect verb forms ('effort by trying and improving theor weakness'), and the truncated final sentence ('better results are acheived by right amount of'). While the meaning is usually retrievable, errors are frequent and cause some difficulty for the reader. This corresponds to a Band 5 level for grammatical range and accuracy.
