Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people believe that accepting an unpleasent sitution is the best approach, while other argue that people should make effort to improve their circumstance. Although acceptance can sometimes prevent from unnecessary stress. I believe that actively seeking possitive change is generally more beneficial.

On the one hand, accepting a difficult sitution may be sensible when people have limited control over it. For example, an individual with a financial difficulties may not able to leave an unsatisfactory job immediately because they need a stable income to support their family, and to meet their expenses. Similarly, accepting temporary hardship can help people remain emtionally balanced rather than continueously worrying about circumstances that can not be changed.

On the other hand attempting to improve bad sitution can lead to better long term outcomes. People who are unsatisfied with their job, for intance can acquire new skills, gained knowledge, or furthur apply for new jobs. Taking such practical steps can increase both personal satisfaction and financial security. If people simply accept every undesirable circumstance, they may miss opportunities for meaningful improvement.

In my opinion, neither approach is appropriate in every situtation. People should accept the circumstance that are geniually beyound their control, but they should actively address problems that can realistically can be changed. This balanced approach allow people to remain patience.

Overall, acceptance can provide stability during unavoidable difficulties, but making reasonable efforts to improve one's circumstances is usually the more constructive response.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views on whether to accept or improve bad situations and providing a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven; while some points are supported with examples, others remain slightly under-developed. For instance, the discussion on accepting financial difficulties is relevant but lacks deeper exploration. Additionally, the response falls short of the minimum length requirement, containing 240 words instead of the required 250, which impacts the overall completeness of the task fulfillment. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to ensure all main ideas are fully extended and well-supported, while strictly meeting the word count requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression of ideas throughout. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, separating the introduction, the two body paragraphs exploring different views, the nuanced opinion paragraph, and the conclusion. Cohesive devices are generally used to guide the reader, with phrases such as "On the one hand" and "On the other hand" clearly marking transitions between contrasting arguments. However, referencing and cohesion can occasionally feel somewhat mechanical or slightly faulty, such as in the final paragraph where the transition to the balanced view could be smoother. To achieve a higher band, the writer should aim for even more seamless integration of cohesive devices and ensure referencing is consistently clear across all paragraphs.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as "unsatisfactory," "unavoidable difficulties," and "constructive response." However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that occur throughout the text, such as "unpleasent" instead of unpleasant, "sitution" instead of situation, "gained knowledge" instead of gaining knowledge, and "furthur" instead of further. Despite these inaccuracies, communication is not impeded, and the meaning remains clear to the reader. To reach the next band level, the writer must expand the range of vocabulary used with greater precision and eliminate basic spelling and word-form errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as conditional clauses and relative clauses. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text, including article omissions and verb form issues such as "an individual with a financial difficulties" and "can not be changed" alongside spelling-adjacent structural slips like "realistically can be changed." Punctuation and agreement errors also appear, for example, "allow people to remain patience" instead of patient. Nevertheless, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning is generally easy to follow. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to increase the frequency of error-free complex sentences and exercise greater control over articles, plurals, and word forms within grammatical patterns.
