IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people believe that it is best to accept a bad situation, such as an unsatisfactory job or shortage of money. Others argue that it is better to try and improve such situations.
Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Some individuals thinks that accepting tough situations is better than working harder to change it into a better situation. This arguement has become a hot potato among two kinds of people holding completely different point of views. In my opinion, working to make a situation better is a good option than adjusting in the place which makes one feel unsatisfied.
First of all, I would talk about those individuals who think it is best to adjust in bad situations. If someobe thinks that they would better accept a bad time rather that making it better then there must be raesons behind it. Fot instance , lack of opportunities . When someone is not having a strong financial background, he/she would find a job no matter they like it or not still they would not quit it because of their needs as the need is more important then satisfaction or comfort. In addtion, there are some individuas who might fear taking risks as they might think that leaving one situation can take them into even worse phase of life due to which they keep on adjusting where they are stuck.
On the other hand, some people may hold different views on this argyemtn as every coin has two sides they do not stay in situation where they do no feel satisfied. Leaving one bad situation is the thing that can take indivuals to a better part of their life as growth in life and career akes place when an unsatisfied place is left behind. Moreover, people feels that they need comfort for which they work hard and acheive what they want rather that staying at one place.
In conlsuion, I would say that no matter how many difficulties we have to face in life but it is alwats a best option to try harder to make every situation better as much as we can.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both views—accepting a bad situation versus trying to improve it—and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and uneven across the paragraphs. For instance, the reasons provided for accepting a bad situation, such as a 'lack of opportunities' or 'fear taking risks', are introduced but remain under-developed without specific illustration beyond brief generalizations. Similarly, the counterargument supporting improvement is somewhat repetitive in its assertion that people need comfort. While all parts of the task are touched upon, the lack of fully extended and supported ideas keeps the depth of the response at a level where some parts are addressed more fully than others.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the response into introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct viewpoints. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty. Transitional phrases like 'First of all, I would talk about those individuals' and 'On the other hand, some people may hold different views on this argyemtn' are rather basic. Furthermore, referencing and logical flow occasionally falter, as seen in run-on sentences and minor disjointed transitions between sentences within the body paragraphs. The progression of ideas is discernible, but stronger cohesive ties would create a much smoother flow throughout the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, but the range is limited and contains noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word form that occasionally cause minor strain for the reader. There are several spelling mistakes, such as 'argyemtn', 'indivuals', 'achesive', and 'conlsuion', along with typos like 'someobe' and 'raesons'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'hot potato', though this idiom is used rather inappropriately in an academic context. Other lexical choices lack precision and collocation accuracy, reflecting a restricted vocabulary range that meets the bare minimum for task communication without achieving flexibility or stylistic appropriateness.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, but attempts at complex structures are frequently marred by grammatical errors. There are frequent issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'Some individuals thinks' and 'people feels', as well as article omissions and incorrect prepositions in phrases like 'adjust in the place'. Punctuation errors are also present, including comma splices and missing commas around clauses. While the errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough across different structures to show inconsistent control over grammar and sentence patterns, preventing the response from reaching a higher level of accuracy.
