Student answer (Band 6.5)
Throughout our lives, there are moments of dilemma where making a decision is extremely difficult. Some people believe that in such situations, one should accept the reality as it is, while others agrue that one should always strive for improving their circumstances. I largely agree with view of working towards betterment and not surrendering to bad circumstances.
There are several reasons why people prefer accepting the situations as they are. One of the prominent reasons are that sometimes the situation is irreversible where you can't undo the damage or change anything about it. For instance, if someone's limbs are imputed because of any accident, they should accept that reality instead of complaining and asking "why me". Additionally, when someone faces financial instability, they readily accept the first job that comes their way regardless of the environment and salary offered by an organization. Furthermore, when someone is consistently pushing hard and still failing at it, the most appropriate thing is to accept the situation as it is. For example, a pool of students appear for Medical entrance exam every year, but because of limited seats majority of talented students cannot get in. They try again and again until they realize the rigidness of the situation and redirect the plan accordingly.
On the other hand, some people favour improving situations and not giving up. Compromising and accepting every bad situation only results in procrastination and victim mindset. Such individuals become pessimistic and believe that nothing can change their fate and life. However, no matter how difficult the situations are, one who has the audacity and courage to deal with it, often comes out as a star. For insatnce, many differently abled people do not blame their condition, but they figure out ways to thrive in life. Additionally, one must not accept underpaid jobs just for the sake of employment. If people will accept such unsatisfactory jobs, it will result in job market with less wages and more workload.
Therefore, I believe that sometimes it is not in your control to change your situation for better, but it is always in your hand how you deal with it. Instead of giving up, one must keep redirecting, replanning and reliving their lives every moment. As it is famously quoted that: "If it is a bad ending, it is not an ending yet".

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The essay successfully addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views and presenting a clear, consistent position throughout. The introduction outlines the writer's stance that striving for betterment is preferable, and this position is maintained until the conclusion. Ideas are generally extended and supported, such as when discussing financial instability and differently abled individuals. However, there is a tendency to slightly over-generalize in certain arguments, and some supporting points could be further elaborated rather than relying on brief examples, which is characteristic of this level. All requirements of the prompt are met effectively with a well-developed argument.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response demonstrates a clear logical organization and progression throughout the essay. Each paragraph has a distinct central topic, starting from the introduction of the dilemma to body paragraphs handling contrasting views and finally the writer's conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On the other hand', 'Additionally', and 'Furthermore' are used effectively to guide the reader through the argument. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately. While the flow is coherent and natural, minor mechanical referencing occasionally appears, but overall progression remains clear and logical from beginning to end.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, providing a sufficient range to communicate ideas with reasonable precision. The writer attempts less common vocabulary items, such as 'financial instability', 'procrastination', and 'victim mindset', displaying some awareness of style and collocation. However, there are noticeable word choice, spelling, and word form errors throughout the text, such as 'agrue' instead of 'argue', 'imputed' instead of 'amputated', 'strive for improving' instead of 'strive to improve', and 'insatnce'. These errors do not impede communication, but they reflect a typical profile where lexical control falls just short of higher bands due to these occasional inaccuracies.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an ability to construct compound and complex clauses like 'Although no matter how difficult the situations are, one who has the audacity...' However, there are persistent errors in grammar and punctuation, such as subject-verb agreement issues in 'One of the prominent reasons are' and minor prepositional or article slips. Punctuation around direct quotes and general sentence structures contains occasional flaws. These errors persist throughout the text, but because they rarely impede communication and the mix of structures is sound, the writing firmly sits within a competent middle band.
