Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both views on how to handle difficult situations, such as unsatisfactory jobs or financial shortages, and provides a clear personal opinion in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas remains limited and under-developed throughout the essay. While the writer attempts to explain why some people advocate for accepting bad situations, the supporting points rely heavily on vague generalisations, such as stating that leaving a job without a backup plan is 'very harmful for a people' without fully elaborating on the consequences. Similarly, the arguments for improving situations lack extended support and precise details. To move up, the writer needs to present fully developed ideas with relevant, well-extended explanations and specific supporting examples that thoroughly address all parts of the task prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays some overall organisation, with a visible introduction, body paragraphs addressing each viewpoint, and a conclusion. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression, and the logical flow between sentences is occasionally disjointed. Cohesive devices are used repetitively and sometimes inaccurately, such as transitioning with 'When se see on otherside' instead of more natural academic linking phrases. Referencing is also problematic at times, with pronouns like 'it' and 'that' frequently being unclear in their reference to people or situations. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal structure of the paragraphs requires better logical sequencing. To achieve a higher band, the writer must ensure a smoother logical progression of ideas from sentence to sentence and employ a wider, more accurate range of cohesive devices without over-relying on basic connectors.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'financial hardship' and 'lifestyle', but these attempts are accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling. For instance, words like 'improv' instead of 'improve', 'ore' instead of 'or', and 'hardwork' as a single verb or noun phrase rather than 'work hard' demonstrate mechanical lexical errors. Collocations are occasionally awkward, such as 'make a high profile planning'. While communication is generally maintained despite these flaws, the vocabulary remains basic and repetitive. To progress, the writer needs to expand their lexical range, demonstrate better control over word forms and collocations, and minimize spelling mistakes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences alongside attempts at complex forms that are frequently faulty. There are persistent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'how we responds', 'people who believes'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'can proves', 'can leaves'), missing articles, and awkward prepositional patterns. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and obscure the intended meaning in places. To reach a higher band, the writer must use a wider variety of complex structures with greater accuracy, ensuring that the majority of sentences are free from basic grammatical errors and that punctuation and tense consistency are well maintained.
