IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people believe that it is best to accept a bad situation, such as an unsatisfactory job or shortage of money. Others argue that it is better to try and improve such situations.
Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
As it is written that some people belives, that it is best to accept a bad situation it can be any type of situation either it is good for us or bad for us but we have to accept it at that current time. Because all type of problems situation cannot sloved at the time it has been caused.
As some situations are given such as unsatisfactory job or shortage of money at that time we should go for it what we are doing like all of us has a dream job that i want to this in my future and want to work there get that much salary but for that we have more educated more skilled and smarter so we cannot take decision to accept that bad situation we can hold and then work on ourselfs and get skilled and then change our time. Same for shortage of money every one faces these types for propblems at there time when it has to come but later we can find more oppurtunity to get of that things and become better.
In my opinion i would say that to accept it is not the answer, but to saty and work on yourself get skilled and go with that roadmap you are dream of is the correct answer.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
First, it is important to note that the response contains 208 words, which falls short of the 250-word minimum requirement. Furthermore, 9 words copied directly from the task prompt were excluded from this count. Regarding the content, the response only partially addresses the prompt. While the student attempts to discuss both views regarding accepting bad situations versus trying to improve them and briefly states a personal opinion, the ideas remain very limited and under-developed. The arguments are repetitive and lack sufficient extension or supporting examples. For instance, the discussion on unsatisfactory jobs and financial shortages is tangled in run-on sentences without clear elaboration, making it difficult to fully understand the intended perspective. To move up to a higher band, the student must meet the word count requirement and fully develop their ideas with clear, detailed explanations and specific examples for both viewpoints.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response shows some basic organization, dividing the text into an introduction, a body section, and a concluding opinion, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. The transitions between sentences are often awkward or mechanical, relying on repetitive phrases like 'at that time' and 'same for'. Paragraphing is also poorly managed, as the entire middle discussion is crammed into a single, overly dense block of text instead of separating the two distinct views. Furthermore, cohesive devices are inadequate and sometimes inaccurate, which disrupts the logical flow of the argument. To achieve a higher score, the student needs to structure the response into distinct paragraphs for each viewpoint, use a wider variety of appropriate cohesive ties to link ideas smoothly, and ensure that the progression of thought is easy for the reader to follow from start to finish.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used throughout the essay is limited and barely adequate for the task. The student relies heavily on basic, repetitive words and phrases, such as 'bad situation', 'job', and 'money'. There are noticeable lexical errors, including incorrect word forms and spelling mistakes like 'sloved' instead of solved, 'propblems' instead of problems, 'oppurtunity' instead of opportunity, and 'saty' instead of stay. These errors and the restricted range of vocabulary occasionally cause difficulty for the reader and prevent the expression of more precise meanings. To reach the next band, the student should expand their working vocabulary, practice correct word forms, and learn how to use less common lexical items with greater precision and correct spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, consisting mostly of simple and attempted complex sentences that are frequently faulty. There are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that often cause difficulty for the reader, such as run-on sentences with missing punctuation ('Because all type of problems situation cannot sloved at the time it has been caused'). Additionally, there are issues with verb forms, subject-verb agreement ('some people belives'), and missing articles or prepositions within grammatical patterns ('get of that things'). To improve to a higher band, the student must increase sentence variety, improve control over complex sentence forms, and reduce the frequency of basic grammatical errors by carefully proofreading their work for punctuation, tense consistency, and agreement.
