Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some people consider that accepting a bad situation is best rather than creating arguements towards the situation. Situation like unsatisfactory job or shortage of money. On the other hand most of the people believe that trying to improve in that situation is way better option. Before giving my opinion this essay will discuss both perspectives. I believe that trying to improve and manage our self in that types of situation is best option.

One major factor, is that improvement can make persons understanding in every directions. It can also help them to be prepared for upcoming situations or same situation for the future. Being attached with bad situation and trying to get out of that situation via improvement can save a life. As an example a person named Carl is suffering from unemployement. If he tries to understand what mistakes he is making; However, later he improves his strength in that field rather than getting depressed can save his life. He can think more tham 100 times before taking an extreme step.

On the other hand most of the people consider that accepting a bad situation is finest option. I am partly agreed with this option because just accepting a bad situation means nothing. Trying to improve and prepare your self for upcoming situations is way better than just accepting a bad situation. Just accepting a bad situation can make a person feel depressed or can give a free tension.

To conclude, Though some people consider that just accepting a bad situation is best option However, other of the people believe that trying to improve is better option; I am totally agreed with the second option trying to improve our self in a bad situation can prepare our self for upcoming situations along with that, in some cases improvement can save a life rather than just accepting a situation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views on how to handle difficult situations and presenting an opinion. The writer's position is clear throughout the essay. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For example, the discussion regarding Carl and unemployment is somewhat repetitive and lacks deeper extension, tending to over-generalize rather than thoroughly unpacking the arguments. To reach a higher level, the ideas need to be more fully elaborated and supported with deeper reasoning rather than relying on brief, circular explanations.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different perspectives and the writer's stance. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical, as seen in repetitive transitional phrasing like 'On the other hand' and 'To conclude'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as the abrupt transition in the first paragraph: 'Situation like unsatisfactory job or shortage of money.' To improve, the writer should employ a wider and more natural range of cohesive devices and ensure smoother transitions between sentences and paragraphs.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating the student's ideas. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'unemployement' and 'perspective', but there are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word form, such as writing 'arguements' instead of 'arguments' and 'our self' instead of 'ourselves'. While these errors do not seriously impede communication, they restrict the vocabulary score. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to expand their range of less common lexical items, improve precision in collocations, and eliminate spelling and word-formation errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to handle varied structures such as conditional and relative clauses. However, there are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles ('suffering from unemployement'), incorrect prepositions, and awkward clause structures like 'Though some people consider that just accepting a bad situation is best option However, other of the people believe'. Although these errors rarely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To move to a higher band, the writer should aim for a higher proportion of error-free sentences and exert better control over complex sentence structures and punctuation.
