Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address both views: the first body paragraph explains why people may remain in an unsatisfactory job or accept financial hardship, while the second presents trying to improve one’s situation through new skills and job opportunities. Your conclusion also indicates a preference for seeking solutions. However, the discussion is only partially developed. The reasons for staying in a bad situation are repeated in general terms, and the opposing view receives little explanation beyond learning skills and finding work. The opinion is clearest in the conclusion rather than being established throughout. To strengthen the response, explain the trade-offs behind each view—for example, why stability may matter, and how practical steps can improve someone’s prospects—and state your position clearly in the introduction.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting contrasting views, and a conclusion. Connectors such as “To begin with,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help signal the direction of the discussion. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow: several sentences repeat the ideas of job difficulty and lack of money without showing how one point leads to the next. Some linking phrases are used inaccurately or mechanically, such as “In addition to” before a complete clause, and “Secondly” does not clearly introduce the opposing view. Use topic sentences that state each paragraph’s main claim, then develop it with a reason and an example; make sure each connector matches the relationship between ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “unsatisfactory job,” “shortage of money,” “new skill,” and “career,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making meaning unclear. For example, “many peoples” and “survival in the shortage of money” do not express the intended ideas naturally, while “quite a job” appears to mean leaving a job. Repetition of “problem,” “job,” and “money” also limits precision. Build a bank of topic-specific phrases and check how words combine: for instance, use “people,” “struggle to survive on a low income,” and “quit a job.” This will make your arguments clearer and more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the overall meaning can usually be followed. However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and errors occur frequently in basic grammar as well as in attempts to join clauses. Examples include “Some individuals thinks,” “they are learn new skill,” and “everyone is trying … and also, peoples can achieve,” which show problems with subject–verb agreement, verb forms, and clause construction. Articles and sentence boundaries are also inconsistent, as in “In, conclusion, In my opinion.” Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with controlled clauses using “because,” “although,” or “while.” Check each sentence for a clear subject and correctly formed verb, and use consistent capitalisation and punctuation.
