IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people believe that it is best to accept a bad situation, such as an unsatisfactory job or shortage of money. Others argue that it is better to try and improve such situations.
Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is often argued that it is better to accept a bad sitauation, such as an unsatisfactory job or lack of financial resources. While others argue that we should try to improve such circumstances. Both views have some merits but in my perspective, we should make efforts to make such situations better because it will help us to work efficiently and increase convenience or satisfaction.
On the one hand, some people believe that we should accept the bad situation because it will be easy for us to work properly and we will try to adjust with the circumstances. For instance, if a person is working in an organisation with low salary package and is not happy or satisfied with it and do not have any other options to work or earn money, so it is good for that person to adjust with it. As a result, he will be able to fulfil some of his needs, and while working here he can apply for another work.
On the other hand, some are against this view that we should manage in a poor condition. We should work hard to upgrade these cases as they will support us to work with concentration and hard work and also increase the chances of promotion. For example, If a person is feeling uncomfortable in a company environment and do not have good relationship with colleagues, it will be difficult for him to perform his tasks. So, it is better for him to create good relations with staff or remove the factors that makes him awkward. Hence, by managing or improving such scenarios he will be able to work conveniently and feel free or easy.
In conclusion, working at a place by accepting the negative or uneasy environment is sometime better and if we have control to change it or improve it we should work for it for our convenience or satisfaction.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both views and state a clear preference for trying to improve difficult circumstances, especially in the introduction and conclusion. The examples about a low-paid job and uncomfortable workplace relationships are relevant and help explain each position. However, some reasoning is not fully clear or developed: the first example shifts from accepting a job to applying for another one, while the second focuses on improving relationships without explaining how this broader approach applies to situations such as financial hardship. The conclusion also presents acceptance as sometimes better but does not clearly restate the conditions under which you favour change. Develop each main idea with a more explicit explanation and keep your position consistent throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow. Within paragraphs, examples generally follow the point they illustrate. However, some links are mechanical, and a few connections are unclear. For example, “While others argue…” is written as a fragment after the opening sentence, and the first example’s move from accepting a job to applying elsewhere weakens the logical connection. References such as “these cases” and “such scenarios” are also broad. Use complete transitions and make the relationship between each claim, explanation, and example more explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to discuss work, money, and personal satisfaction, including phrases such as “financial resources,” “low salary package,” and “promotion.” The meaning is generally understandable, and you attempt some less common expressions. However, several choices are unnatural or imprecise, including “adjust with the circumstances,” “upgrade these cases,” and “feel free or easy.” Repetition of “situation,” “work,” and “improve” also limits flexibility. There is a spelling error in “sitauation.” Aim for more natural collocations and precise alternatives—for example, describe adapting to circumstances, improving working conditions, or feeling comfortable. This would make your ideas clearer and more fluent without changing their meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including conditional clauses such as “if a person is feeling uncomfortable…” and result clauses beginning “Hence.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. The opening “While others argue…” is a sentence fragment, and “a person … do not have” has subject–verb disagreement. In the first example, “if …, so it is good” combines two clause patterns awkwardly; use either “if …, it is good” or “so …” in a separate sentence. There are also issues with articles and number, as in “another work.” Check agreement, sentence boundaries, and clause structure carefully, while continuing to use varied sentence forms.
