Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some individuals think that accepting a bad circumtances, like an unsatisfactory job or financial crisis, is the best approach, while others argue that people make efforts and improve these situations.

First, accepting a bad situation would be a sensible decision sometimes, because sometimes you've to accept a bad situation inorder not to take risk. For example, a person was having a toxic environment on office every day, but unable to quit job due to the dependants they have, quiting their jobs will lead to financial problems. Secondly, people having financial problems may need to accept the situation rather than spend money on thing they can't afford. For example, they will be buying the necessary things only, while shopping they have to think if they really need this item or not.

On the other hand, I believe making efforts to make thing better will be a good choice rather than accepting it. People need to do constant effort to overcome their situation. For example, people who are unhappy with their job can learn new in-demand skills to help improve the situation. Likewise, the people who are struggle with financial problems cutdown unnecessary things, create budgets and should create additional source of income. Although these changes would require both time and efforts, but this will help in improving their living standards and help overcoming their financial problems.

In the end, in my opinion making efforts to improve financial problem is a better option rather than accepting it, sometimes it's better to accept but in majority of the cases make it better is a good option

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and give a clear preference for trying to improve difficult circumstances, especially in the final paragraph. The examples about staying in a toxic workplace because of dependants and managing spending during financial hardship are relevant. However, the discussion of acceptance is more about coping cautiously than explaining when accepting a situation is beneficial, and the improvement ideas are listed more than fully developed. For instance, learning new skills and creating a budget are useful suggestions, but you could explain how these steps lead to a better job or greater financial stability. Develop the reasoning on both sides more evenly and make your final position more precise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph for each view, and a conclusion. The progression from accepting circumstances to trying to change them is easy to follow, and signposts such as “First,” “On the other hand,” and “In the end” help guide the reader. This already gives the essay a coherent arrangement. To make the links more flexible and precise, avoid relying mainly on basic sequencing phrases and repeated “For example” constructions. Some connections between ideas are also abrupt: the financial advice in the second body paragraph would benefit from a sentence explaining how budgeting and extra income support the argument for improving one’s situation. Ensure the conclusion clearly synthesises both views rather than repeating the preference.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “unsatisfactory job,” “financial problems,” “toxic environment,” “in-demand skills,” and “living standards.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and there are attempts to use more specific language. However, noticeable spelling, word-form, and collocation problems reduce precision, as in “circumtances,” “quiting,” “thing they can't afford,” and “create additional source of income.” Some expressions are also vague or repetitive, particularly “make thing better” and repeated references to “situation.” Aim to check spelling and choose natural combinations of words. More precise phrasing would help distinguish accepting circumstances from taking practical steps to manage or change them.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “because,” “while,” and “Although,” and the overall meaning is generally understandable. Some sentence patterns are controlled, such as the explanation that quitting a job could lead to financial problems. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction remain noticeable. For example, “people who are struggle” needs a corrected verb pattern, while “Although these changes would require both time and efforts, but…” combines two contrasting structures incorrectly. The final sentence also lacks clear grammatical structure. Practise building accurate complex sentences and check that each clause has a complete subject and verb; this will improve control without sacrificing variety.
