Student answer (Band 6.5)

Many individuals debate on whether it's better to make an effort and overcome difficult times like money shortage or unsatisfying job, or to just accept the situation. Being both notions prevalent in the modern society, I strongly believe the former one as such situations are not permanent and impact the success in the future.

Some people argue that it's best to accept difficult or complex situations like financial problems or working in a dissatisfactory job. They believe that everyone is not meant to be financially stable or having a well-suited satisfactory job. Hence, instead of putting lots of efforts and enduring the pain of hardship to overcome the money-shortage problem or job-related discontentment, it's better to just stay in the same condition and accept the fate. For instance, today, majority of Indian youths are unable to get the jobs of their choice and some of them even come from weak financial backgrounds; so instead of criticizing it, it's better to endure the pain of today to secure the success in the future.

However, I firmly believe that one, going through such situation, ought to do considerable hard-work and hence, try to overcome such hard times. Failures are temporary in life. If people just accept the fact they are not wealthy and are not doing satisfactory jobs, and they don't make effort to overcome the situation, then they are likely to stay in the same situation, which is very alarming for their future. To exemplify, if a person facing such money crisis or doing non-satisfactory job, doesn't make efforts to surpass this situation, then it may affect his future generation, which may be poor or stressed out due to such burdens.

To conclude, although people have different views for tackling difficult situations like money shortage or unsatisfactory job, it's best to make efforts and every possible try to overcome such difficult situations in life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both perspectives and state a clear preference for trying to improve difficult circumstances, particularly in the introduction and conclusion. The discussion of acceptance is relevant, and the example about young people in India helps illustrate the issue. Your own view is also supported by the point that inaction may leave people and their families facing ongoing hardship. However, the acceptance argument is not fully clear: the example says enduring hardship can “secure the success in the future,” which seems to support perseverance rather than accepting the situation. Some claims, such as the effect on future generations, would benefit from more explanation. Clarifying the opposing view and developing each example more precisely would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Transitions such as “However,” “For instance,” and “To conclude” make the direction of the argument easy to follow. This gives the essay a coherent progression, although some linking is mechanical and ideas within paragraphs are not always connected precisely. For example, the Indian youths example shifts from accepting hardship to enduring it for future success, so its relationship to the paragraph’s main point is unclear. The phrase “Being both notions prevalent” also makes the opening connection awkward. Use topic sentences that state each paragraph’s central claim, then ensure examples directly support it; clearer referencing would further strengthen cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “financially stable,” “dissatisfactory,” “hardship,” and “overcome,” and the meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts to vary expressions for difficult circumstances. However, some choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “debate on whether,” “money-shortage problem,” “every possible try,” and “surpass this situation.” Repetition of “situation,” “difficult,” and “efforts” also limits flexibility. Aim for more natural collocations and precise phrasing, such as “debate whether,” “financial difficulties,” “make every effort,” and “overcome these circumstances.” This would make the vocabulary more fluent and appropriately formal without changing your ideas.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including conditional sentences such as “If people just accept the fact … then they are likely to stay” and clauses introduced by “although” and “which.” Most sentences remain understandable, but some grammatical errors and awkward constructions persist. For example, “everyone is not meant to be … or having” has faulty parallel structure, while “if a person … doesn’t make efforts” has an unnecessary comma separating the subject from its verb. In “one, going through such situation,” the inserted commas and missing article disrupt the sentence. Review articles, agreement, parallel forms, and punctuation around clauses. More consistently accurate complex sentences would improve control while preserving your range.
