Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people debate that it is best to accept a bad situation, such as shortage of money or an unsatisfactory job, while others argue that one should try and improve such situations. In this regard, this essay will not only discuss both the perspectives but also my opinion which is in favour of the latter point of view in upcoming paragraphs with a relevant conclusion.

To commence with, accepting a bad situation such as an unsatine is at least employsfactory job and financial trouble, often comes with some benefits. The prime one is that, oed, and earning money rather than living without a job. To explain it, being employed even at a bad working space, exposes people to new experiences and skills, and can help in building working hours. Moreover, unemployment due to lack of desirable jobs, can lead to social exclusion and anxiety, that can further turn into mental stress. For example, a person working at an unsatisfactory job, can still gather work experience, management skills and earn income while someone who is unemployed often gets stressed and anxious. Secondly, doing unfavourable work can help in building patience and resilience, and also provides job security. To elaborate it, it can give rise to feelings of acceptance, self-confidence and wisdom in the person, leading to emotional maturity.

However, trying to improve such situations can be a substantially better alternative, due to several reasons. The first and foremost is that, spending time making resumes and applying for one's dream job, can make an individual happy and satisfied, when they get their job. For an epitome, this gives motivation to the masses to move further in life, and avoid getting stuck in unfavourable working environments. Apart from this, improving situations helps alleviate long term stress caused by financial crisis, by earning higher wages and living a healthy mental life. To clarify it, making correct life decisions is necessary, along with an exceptional income to live without worries.

Hence, my personal stance aligns with this point of view, as people should keep themselves motivated in life, and always aim for the top, rather than choosing to perform a disliked job or live in financial ruin.

In conclusion, although accepting a bad situation may have some benefits for the time being, one should always try to improve certain situations in the long run, to mitigate stress induced by failure, and to avoid hardships in the future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both views and state a consistent preference for trying to improve difficult circumstances, especially in the introduction, the paragraph beginning “However,” and the conclusion. The discussion of accepting a poor job is supported with relevant points about income, experience, and job security. This meets the task well, but some ideas are less fully developed than others: for example, the claim that accepting a situation builds “self-confidence and wisdom” is asserted without a clear explanation, while the case for improving a situation focuses mainly on finding a dream job and earning more. To strengthen the response further, explain the practical limits or risks of each approach and develop each supporting example more precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion that restates your position. The progression from the benefits of acceptance to the advantages of change is easy to follow, and signposts such as “However” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. Cohesive devices are used flexibly, although some transitions feel formulaic, including “To commence with,” “The first and foremost,” and “To clarify it.” The first body paragraph also contains a severely disrupted sentence beginning “The prime one is that,” which interrupts the flow and makes the connection between the point and its explanation unclear. Use simpler transitions and ensure each paragraph develops one clearly linked point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “social exclusion,” “resilience,” “job security,” and “financial crisis,” and some choices communicate your ideas effectively. However, control of word choice and collocation is uneven, and several expressions sound unnatural or obscure meaning. “An unsatine is at least employsfactory job” appears corrupted, while “working space” is not the natural phrase for a job environment. “For an epitome” is also an inaccurate expression in this context, and “exceptional income” does not clearly convey the idea of earning enough to live comfortably. Aim for accurate, natural combinations rather than formal-sounding phrases, and proofread carefully for spelling and word-form errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including clauses with “while,” “which,” and “although,” and the overall meaning is generally recoverable. Some sentences are grammatically controlled, such as “In conclusion, although accepting a bad situation may have some benefits for the time being, one should always try to improve certain situations in the long run.” However, some errors remain in sentence construction and agreement. For instance, “accepting a bad situation … often comes with some benefits” is followed by the incomplete and disrupted clause “The prime one is that,” and “unemployment … can lead to social exclusion and anxiety, that can further turn into mental stress” has faulty clause punctuation and reference. Review sentence boundaries, subject–verb agreement, and relative-clause punctuation to make complex sentences more reliable.
