IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people believe that it is best to accept a bad situation, such as an unsatisfactory job or shortage of money. Others argue that it is better to try and improve such situations.
Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is argued that some people believe that it is best to consider a bad situation, such as an inadequate job or lack of money while others argue that it is better to strive and improve such conditions.
On the first hand, It is best to accept unsatisfied conditions if anyone do not have any other way to earn or survive likewise having a job with low-income. For example, if people will leave undesired jobs and also they do not have any other source, it will cause them to take loans to manage their domestic needs. So, try to find satisfaction and being less stressful in the available situations as it will help individuals to keep happy and peaceful.
On the other hand, I strongly believe that people will continue to improve themselves as it will establish their best status in society. Individuals who do not relay on the given sources but tried to improve their conditions are now enjoying a superior status in society. Moreover, one can do extra work, start new business and many other things as these things will help him to become successful in life. For instance, my father was a teacher but he left his job as he could not manage the expenses of home with his salary. He started the business of rice with a very little investment but within two years he was elligible to bulid his own industry of rice where rice are being polished and packed into sacks. All this happened with his continued efforts. So, it is best to always be in a position to improve our conditions.
In conclusion, I would like to say that men should always try to improve himself if he has opportunities. It will make him successful and superior in society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address both views and make your own position clear: accepting a job may be necessary when there is no other income, while you ultimately favour trying to improve one’s circumstances. The example about your father gives relevant support to your opinion and shows how effort can lead to change. This meets the task well, with some elements more fully developed than others: the first view is explained briefly, and the point about finding satisfaction is not explored as fully as the business example. To strengthen the response further, explain more precisely when acceptance is sensible and how people can balance that with seeking improvement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. The progression from the practical case for accepting a job to your argument for improvement is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the other hand” help distinguish the positions. However, some linking is mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “So” and “Moreover,” and the conclusion largely repeats the opinion rather than drawing the discussion together. Some references, such as “these things,” are broad. Use a wider range of natural transitions and make links between claims and examples more explicit to create smoother progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “source,” “expenses,” “investment,” “continued efforts,” and “superior status.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, but the range is limited by repeated general words such as “conditions,” “things,” and “improve,” and several combinations are unnatural or inaccurate. For example, “consider a bad situation” does not clearly express accepting it, while “unsatisfied conditions” and “manage their domestic needs” are not natural collocations in this context. Spelling errors such as “elligible” and “bulid” also affect accuracy. Aim for more precise topic vocabulary and check common word partnerships and spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including conditional structures such as “if people will leave undesired jobs” and a longer sentence describing your father’s business. However, complex sentences are often faulty, and errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction sometimes make the reader pause. For example, “if anyone do not have” should use a singular verb form, and “Individuals … but tried” shifts tense within the sentence. In “where rice are being polished,” the subject and verb do not agree. Practise building accurate conditional and relative clauses, and check that subjects, verbs, and tenses remain consistent.
