IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people believe that it is best to accept a bad situation, such as an unsatisfactory job or shortage of money. Others argue that it is better to try and improve such situations.
Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is argued that it is not a big deal to be in the miserable circumstances, for example having low income or uncertain jobs whereas, another general populace contends that one ought to try to root out such situations. In my opinion, I firmly believe that it is better to change your financial condition rather than being unhappy with your income and job.
This easy will give a brief overview on both point of views and then I will justify my opinion.
On one hand, there is a community who is not willing to make their lifestyle better. These are the individuals who do not have any determination, passion and goal to achieve. They accept what they face. The root reason behind their low courage can be their addiction to their poor lifestyle and the environment they live in. They may not have successful entrepreneur in their circle whom they can get motivated from.
On the other hand, there is another society who is well aware of the importance of a better lifestyle. In today's rapidly growing world, it has become extremely vital to improve yourself to walk with this revolutionized world. These people argue that if an individual is satisfied with his designation and getting enough money to meet his necessities of life, he is the happiest man in the world.
In my opinion, I majorly agree with the second group. Because if one is not happy with his source of income and amount of income, he will remain restless. He would not be able to enjoy the facilities of life. Every individual should try to get better job opportunities that offer a good amount of income.
To conclude, I would say that everyone has the right to celebrate his life and they should improve their financial conditions so that their families can have a better lifestyle.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You present a clear preference for improving difficult circumstances, especially through better employment and income, and you include discussion of both perspectives. However, the first view is not fully represented: people who accept a bad situation may do so because they value stability, feel content with modest needs, or face practical barriers, rather than because they lack determination. The second view is also explained inconsistently: you first describe people seeking improvement, but then say they are satisfied with their current job and income. Your own position is repeated, but its support is limited mainly to restlessness and access to life’s facilities. Develop each side accurately and explain the reasons behind your opinion more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, a paragraph stating your opinion, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “On one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “To conclude” makes the structure easy to follow. This meets the lower-band expectation of an organised response and shows some movement towards more flexible progression. However, the progression within the second body paragraph is confusing: it begins by describing people who want improvement, then says they are satisfied with their designation and income. The sentence announcing a “brief overview” also adds little, and repeated references to “these people” and “individual” make links somewhat mechanical. Make each paragraph’s central idea consistent and connect supporting explanations more directly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “low income,” “uncertain jobs,” “determination,” “source of income,” and “job opportunities.” These choices make the subject clear, and attempts at less common expressions show some ambition. However, several noticeable word-choice and collocation problems reduce precision: “general populace contends” is unnatural in this context, “root out such situations” does not fit the meaning of improving circumstances, and “walk with this revolutionized world” is unclear. “This easy” appears to be an incorrect word choice for “essay,” while “successful entrepreneur in their circle” is awkwardly phrased. Aim for simpler, accurate combinations such as “the other group argues,” “improve their circumstances,” and “keep pace with a changing world.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a conditional sentence (“if an individual is satisfied…”) and a reason clause (“Because if one is not happy…”). The main ideas are generally understandable, but errors recur in sentence construction, agreement, articles, and punctuation. For example, “This easy will give a brief overview” has an incorrect subject and verb construction, while “both point of views” has a number/article problem. In “there is a community who,” the relative clause does not agree naturally with the noun, and “a successful entrepreneur” is missing an article. The opening sentence also joins contrasting clauses awkwardly with “whereas.” Practise building accurate complex sentences and check agreement, articles, and clause boundaries; this will make your meaning easier to follow.
