Student answer (Band 6.0)

An increasing number of people think that everybody should accept their financially unviable jobs and difficult life circumstances, while others believe that it is best to enhance their lives and develop their skills for better living conditions. In my opinion, I believe that people should invest in themselves to improve the quality of their lives and guarantee an better future for them and their families.

Regarding the latter opinion, I argue that it is important for every individual to fight for a better future, especially in young age because their will still have the power and motivation to work harder and take risks. In other words, some individuals should invest in their education by taking courses or persue their university education to have a better chance for prestigious jobs, while others can volunteer to serve society and gain field experiences which is important to imrpove their CVs and have higher chances of finding high-paying jobs.

On the other hand, many individuals believe that accepting unsatisfactory jobs with minimum wage is better that living without a job at all. In fact, thay argue that improving their financial status is not mandatory as long as they can provide the basic life essentials, because today, all the countries around the world are experiencing a shortage of jobs, and at the same time, they consider investing in their education and developing their skills as a waste of time and money.

In conclusion, some people can endure difficult living conditions, while others are continuously developing their skills to have a better life, both will have different futures.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and state a clear preference for improving one’s circumstances, particularly through education and skill development. The examples of taking courses, pursuing university study, and volunteering are relevant and help explain how people might improve their prospects. The opposing view is also represented through job scarcity and the value of securing basic necessities. However, that side is less fully explored: the essay mainly reports what people believe, without explaining when accepting a difficult situation might be sensible or how it could provide stability. The conclusion summarises the contrast but does not clearly restate your own position. Develop both arguments more evenly and make your final opinion explicit to strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. Phrases such as “Regarding the latter opinion” and “On the other hand” make the shift between perspectives easy to follow, and the ideas within the first body paragraph progress from education to volunteering and employment prospects. This coherent arrangement meets the core expectations, with some effective progression. To make the organisation more flexible and precise, avoid relying on formulaic transitions and clarify references such as “both will have different futures,” which does not specify what outcomes you mean. The conclusion would also connect more directly to the position stated in the introduction rather than ending with a general contrast.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “financially unviable,” “unsatisfactory jobs,” “developing their skills,” and “financial status.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and attempts at more specific language such as “field experiences” and “high-paying jobs” show an effort to go beyond basic wording. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, however, and spelling slips are present: “persue,” “imrpove,” and “thay.” “Prestigious jobs” is not quite the same as well-paid or suitable employment, while “better living conditions” is more natural than “better living.” Check spelling carefully and choose collocations that express your intended meaning precisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a subordinate clause in “especially in young age because…” and a longer sentence explaining why some people accept low-paid work. Most meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “their will still have” needs the subject pronoun “they,” and “an better future” requires “a better future.” In “both will have different futures,” the plural subject is not well connected to the preceding clause, making the sentence structure unclear. There are also issues with article use and sentence construction in places. Review articles, pronoun agreement, and the way clauses are joined; more consistently accurate complex sentences would improve control.
