Student answer (Band 6.0)

People have differnet opinions about whether they should accept difficult situations or try to improve them. While some believe that accepting such situations can bring peace of mind, I believe that making efforts to improve them is genrally a better approach.

Nowadays, people are quite busy in their lives, and also they don't have a lot of peace, so they find it an easy approach to accept bad situations just to hide the problem that is causing it. It is genrally beacuse of lack of motivation, and stress of family. Increasing amount of stress levels in young people are making them impatient and they are not working on themselves to improve a situation. For example, if they got an unsatisfactory job they don't really like, they will just accept its and move on with their lives, rather then trying to score a job of their interest, even when they are unable to complete their expenses, they just try to hide some of the biggest problems in themselves and not even thinking about improving their lifestyle or some changes that can bring them peace of mind.

On the other hand, I believe that people should try to improve their difficult situations whenever possible. This is because taking action can create better opportunities and improve their quality of life. For instance, a person who is unhappy with their job can learn new skills or gain further qualifications to find a better position. Likewise, people who face financial problems can develop new skills or start a small business to increase their income.

As a result, making effort to change their circumstances can lead to more successful and satisfying life. This can bring them not only peace of mind but, also the independence to do whatever they want in their life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and make your position clear: accepting difficulties may offer peace of mind, but you favour trying to improve them. The examples of seeking qualifications for a better job and developing skills to increase income are relevant and help explain your view. However, the discussion of acceptance is less fully developed. It mainly attributes acceptance to low motivation and stress, and the job example becomes difficult to follow before its point is clear. Explain more fairly why someone might choose acceptance—for example, limited opportunities or the value of stability—and develop that reasoning. Your conclusion restates your position, but could more directly weigh the two views.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph for each view, and a concluding statement. Transitions such as “On the other hand,” “For instance,” and “As a result” make the direction of the argument easy to follow, and the second body paragraph progresses logically from the claim to examples. This shows effective organisation, with some cohesive features already used flexibly. However, the first body paragraph is overloaded: several points about stress, motivation, employment and expenses are joined together, so the central reasoning becomes less clear. Break this into more controlled sentences and use clearer references instead of repeated “they” and “it.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to discuss the topic and convey your main ideas, including “peace of mind,” “unsatisfactory job,” “qualifications,” and “financial problems.” There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “increase their income” and “quality of life.” However, word choice and collocation are sometimes inaccurate or awkward: “score a job of their interest,” “hide some of the biggest problems in themselves,” and “the independence to do whatever they want” do not express the intended ideas naturally. Spelling errors such as “differnet,” “genrally,” and “beacuse” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise collocations and proofread spelling so your adequate range is used more reliably.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including a concessive opening with “While” and conditional structures such as “if they got an unsatisfactory job.” Most of the argument remains understandable, and the later paragraph contains several clear sentences. Some grammatical errors nevertheless persist. For example, “It is genrally beacuse of lack of motivation” lacks a clear grammatical construction, while “Increasing amount of stress levels … are making” has a number-agreement problem. In “they will just accept its,” the pronoun form is incorrect, and “a more successful and satisfying life” needs an article before “more.” Work on agreement, articles, pronouns and sentence boundaries, while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
