IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some people believe that it is best to accept a bad situation, such as an unsatisfactory job or shortage of money. Others argue that it is better to try and improve such situations.
Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
Some young people accept the bad situation such as an unsatisfactory job or lack of money. On the other hand remaining people believe in hard work to handle these situation. From my perspective, people need to work better to turn the bad situation toward success.
The certain reason for the people who give up, they are lazy, instead of improvement they accept worse circumstances.
The strong reason i believe that they dont have will to grow themself or in some cases they think that these situation are will of God moreover, that can never be change but the reality is that if you dont do exertion by yourself how you are expecting that God will help you, as a result, they give up.
For example, a employee had shortage of money of he cant afford the home expenditures and do nothing and says that is God will.
Thats why, every individuals should try to change their present for better situation.
While other people have different opinion, we should try to improve situation.
Their believes are to never give up, try again and again, if we fall by any chance then we should retry until we wont get succes and grip on all bad situation. My point of view is that it mostely depends on their own effort.
For example, if a person is doing a job and wants to work with more paid salary and unluckily unable to find a better job opportunity, dont need to lose hope and try to change their current situation.
In conclusion, hard work is they key to succes. Its on their own either they want to change themselves or not.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You give a clear overall preference for improving difficult circumstances, especially in the opening and conclusion, and you include examples about low income and seeking better-paid work. However, the discussion of the view that people should accept a bad situation is not fully explained: calling such people “lazy” or saying they believe it is “will of God” presents narrow assumptions rather than exploring why acceptance might sometimes be reasonable. The opposing view is also introduced briefly, but its benefits and reasoning are not developed. Your position is present, yet the ideas remain limited and are not consistently supported. To strengthen the response, explain both perspectives fairly and extend each with a relevant reason or example. The response meets the stated length requirement; eight words copied from the task prompt were excluded from the count.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response, with an opening, discussion of people who accept their circumstances, a shift to those who try to improve them, and a conclusion. However, progression between these parts is difficult to follow. For example, “While other people have different opinion” repeats the contrast without clearly developing it, and the paragraph beginning “The certain reason” combines several claims and an example in one long sequence. Linking phrases such as “On the other hand,” “moreover,” and “as a result” are used, but connections are sometimes unclear or mechanical. Paragraphing and clearer topic sentences would help readers see the two views separately. Organise one paragraph around each view, then connect them to your opinion and conclusion.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “unsatisfactory job,” “shortage of money,” “circumstances,” and “job opportunity.” This gives you enough basic language to communicate the main subject. However, the range is limited, and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, which sometimes makes the meaning less clear. Examples include “handle these situation,” “grow themself,” “grip on all bad situation,” and “more paid salary.” Spelling errors such as “succes,” “mostely,” and “Thats” also reduce accuracy. Aim to use more precise phrases for the two positions, such as “accept their circumstances” and “take steps to improve their situation,” and check spelling and word forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including a conditional idea in “if you don’t do exertion by yourself how you are expecting that God will help you.” However, complex sentences are often faulty, and frequent errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence boundaries can make the reader work to understand your meaning. For instance, “a employee had shortage of money of he cant afford the home expenditures” contains several grammatical problems, while “these situation are will of God” has incorrect agreement and structure. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly in long sentences joined by commas. Practise building accurate short sentences first, then combine ideas using controlled clauses such as “Although some people accept their situation, others try to change it.”
