Student answer (Band 6.0)

While some individuals argue that having low-paying job or being bankrupt is far much better, others contend that it is prudent to change the situation. I believe that a person should uplift his financial situation by looking for better sources of income due to increasing responsibilities as well the need to live a better lifestyle.

On the one hand, those who advocate for accepting unsatisfactory job offer or lack of funds believe that in taking what life has to offer. This is mainly because they dont have pressing needs or additional responsibilities. Insufficient income to them may not be a big deal since they value comfort as long as their basic needs have been met. As an illustration, many young people such as students whose needs are provided for by the parents do not work hard to earn extra coins as they don't have pressing responsibilities.

On the other hand, I firmly believe that working extra hard will enable one to cope with increasing cost of living. With the rising cost of living and many financial obligations, an individual ought to find other sources of income to supplement their needs. For example, teachers who earn basic pay will have to suppliment their income by doing coaching of leaners during extra hours so as to earn additional income. Furthermore, the need to live a better lifestyle often drives people out of their comfort zone hence doing side hustle.

In conclusion, although other people believe in living average life without the desire to achieve more, others argue against it. With the rising cost of living and the need achieve more in life, I believe people should be proactive in looking for extra sources of

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You discuss both positions and make your own view clear: you favour improving one’s financial circumstances, while explaining that some people accept less because they have few responsibilities. The examples about students supported by parents and teachers offering coaching are relevant and help illustrate the arguments. However, the first view is explained mainly through the circumstances of young people, rather than exploring why someone might accept an unsatisfactory job or financial hardship more generally. Your conclusion also repeats the contrast but ends before completing your final point, so the response does not finish with a fully developed summary. Develop the reasons behind each view more evenly and ensure the conclusion is complete and directly reinforces your position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a conclusion. The progression from accepting a situation to trying to improve it is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” make the organisation clear. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent arrangement and also shows some stronger control through purposeful paragraphing. However, the linking is occasionally mechanical, and the final paragraph does not complete its closing idea. Some connections between claims could be made more explicit—for example, explain more directly how the student example supports accepting a bad situation. Use transitions selectively and make sure each paragraph’s final sentence leads naturally to the next point.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “financial obligations,” “rising cost of living,” “supplement their needs,” and “comfort zone.” These expressions help communicate the central argument, and the meaning is generally clear. You also attempt more specific phrases such as “additional responsibilities” and “sources of income,” though some choices are inaccurate or unnatural. For instance, “having low-paying job” and “being bankrupt” do not accurately represent the task’s examples, while “extra coins” is too informal in this context. Spelling errors such as “suppliment” and “leaners” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise, natural collocations and check spelling; this will make your argument sound more controlled and appropriately academic.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “since,” “as,” and “although.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur across the response. Examples include the missing article in “having low-paying job,” the incomplete construction “believe that in taking what life has to offer,” and the missing “to” in “the need achieve more in life.” The final sentence is also unfinished, which leaves its grammatical structure incomplete. There are some punctuation and spacing inconsistencies as well. To improve, check articles and infinitive patterns, and read each sentence through to confirm that it has a complete main clause. More accurate control of these structures would strengthen the range you are already attempting.
